This Week on DVD: Watchmen, Coraline, Pontypool

Finally after weeks of lacklustre DVD releases, we’ve got a decent assortment of must-buy discs to gorge on including Zack Snyder’s Watchmen (both the theatrical version and the director’s cut) and the beautiful stop-motion animated Coraline. There are also some interesting indie releases this week including the superhero comedy Super Capers, the surreal Zach Galifianakis flick Visioneers, and Bruce McDonald’s cerebral take on the zombie genre Pontypool (unfortunately, only available in Canada at the moment). In terms of TV, we’ve got the second and final season of Pushing Daisies, the final season of Prison Break, and all three seasons of the cult British comedy The Mighty Boosh. Is that enough for you? What will you be picking up this week?

This American Life – season 2
Posted by Goon on July 21st, 2009I find it ironic that the Canada only release of Pontypool doesn’t have bilingual packaging.
Posted by Jay C. on July 21st, 2009asking on this thread for no reason: Is Cantankerous’ new ep coming out before or after the new podcast?
Posted by Goon on July 21st, 2009Jay, neither does Fubar or Hard Core Logo
a quick glance shows most times though yes they are bilingual – It’s All Gone Pete Tong, Waydowntown, Kitchen Party, to name a few…
Whenever Beauty Day is released, give it a French title and packaging, but make it all a joke, like its describing a completely different movie, and the French title would translate to something like “Chocolate Retard on Fire”
Posted by Goon on July 21st, 2009the French title would translate to something like “Chocolate Retard on Fireâ€
I would support this. I would support this monetarily. Cash money.
Posted by Dave on July 21st, 2009Cantankerous probably won’t be edited until the end of the week at least. We have Film Junk tonight and Movie Club tomorrow and I’ve still got like 3 reviews to write.

Posted by Jon Rocks on July 21st, 2009I believe Pontypool is currently available through IFC on demand or something like that in the U.S. Not sure when it will be released on DVD, but Canada is indeed Region 1.
