“Dougs tangents are unbearable”
14year olds getting high on illegal drugs and jerking their dicks to Bette Midler on Letterman is elevating the genre of simple movie podcasting to an expressive artform. Doug Nagy is validated in every way, plus he’s nice.
It was really nice to hear a review with differing opinions. Sean seemed a bit surprised, you guys usually have got his back on his written review and stuff, all of a sudden he’s on trial!
“College attitude” that’s classic.
Posted by Henrik on July 7th, 2009Halfway through the podcast.. Jay, was Razorback mentioned in Not Quite Hollywood? That movie I remember being awesome and a recommendation from me. A solid monster (I guess) film =)
Posted by AdamH on July 7th, 2009Razorback gets a pretty decent chunk of time devoted to it during Not Quite Hollywood. And I agree, its a great film.
Posted by Matt Gamble on July 7th, 2009great show as usual!
i think the problem with doug nagy is that he isn’t more often on the show. people may need 3-4 shows to get over his way of speaking and appreciate his opinions.
Posted by markusmaria on July 7th, 2009so Sean reviews a movie pulling in everything he has read about it prior and after seeing it…that is a interesting way of doing it…on second thought I love Transformers now.
I was surprised to hear Jay so accepting of the chosen filming style on P.E. I understand a filmmaker choosing a style to work based only on camera set-ups etc. but in this film it seems like that functional choice really hurt the “story tone” of the film. It seemed at odds with the romantic robinhood type story in the script. A definite lesson to all filmmakers.
Word on the street is that Depp and Mann had words over the look during production as Depp realized the full scope of what Mann was doing. It’s also interesting that Mann couldn’t get his DP from his other digital productions and went back to his old DP, seems like you would want to build on the work experience you gained on earlier digital productions?! I mean this is a new medium.
Posted by rus in chicago on July 7th, 2009Not sure where you got that idea Rus… I don’t read other reviews prior to writing my own, specifically because I don’t want to be influenced by them.
Posted by Sean on July 7th, 2009Sean wins the Public Enemies debate.
Posted by mitch on July 7th, 2009I was reacting to you justifying the movie based on what you read it was going to try and do, specifically, the whole Dillinger as going up against the banks during the depression in favor of the people. That is in the movies P.R. but the problem with the film it’s not on the screen. Its all in the podcast.
Posted by rus in chicago on July 7th, 2009Oh, right. Well I did mention numerous scenes where this stuff actually was shown on screen. Maybe Michael Mann didn’t spell it out enough, but I certainly saw it in the movie, and then afterward I was still interested enough to go and read more about Dillinger and find out how accurate the movie was.
I wasn’t justifying the entire movie with this either, I was trying to give a general idea of why I think Dillinger is actually a compelling historical figure.
Posted by Sean on July 7th, 2009I liked Doug. Anyone who mentions masturbating to The Midd’s “tits” while high on LSD is pretty awesome and plus at no point did I think that he didn’t know what he was talking about. I hope you guys have him back on because he added even more perspective.
I’m not a fan of these new HD cameras that are being used. I wish they would go back to film.
I could picture Jennifer’s Body working with another lead actress. The go to girl would have been Rachel McAdams, but she’s a good actress and doesn’t need to rely on typecasting.
Saw Mean Girls and she was the best thing about it along with Tina Fey.
Predators seems to be being fast tracked by Fox and I don’t think it will turn out well. There is also a script floating around for Alien Planet which they will probably follow in the same vein.
Cumonass is an appropriate name for that douche. If I saw him at Dairy Queen I would hire someone to rape him for irony, but only after I have completed my frozen beverage.
That is all.

Posted by Johno on July 7th, 2009Greg – the colours on the robots are whack. You said it right.
The best quote I’ve heard on criticism is this: Consider the source.
David Wilson is right on the money.
I can appreciate that some do not like me for whatever reason, and that is fine. All I care about is keeping it real and shooting it straight.
That being said – unless you are the Queen of England, you are not allowed to speak as “we” you sopping bag of donkey cunts.
Posted by doug nagy on July 7th, 2009Facts:
-Don’t change Jay’s trailer trash. It’s perfect in its own imperfections.
-It was quite a satisfaction to turn my computer on a few months ago and get the message “Reed Farrington has accepted your request to be friends”. He told me it was hard to type on his iTouch. We haven’t talked since. It’s a special relationship.

Posted by Falsk on July 7th, 2009-There are more than two female listeners, right?
Holy fuck ‘cumonass’ is TERRIFYING! Who is this guy!? o__o
Posted by Falsk on July 7th, 2009I own the 1001 movie and really enjoy it.
And I agree with Greg, Good Burger is awesome.
Posted by Nick D on July 7th, 2009Parker Lewis, nice. Since I often stockpile Film Junk eps like candy for a rainy day, it may be awhile until I listen to this one but I’m going to say that … Sean was the one that watched Parker Lewis. There are not quite enough vans exploding for Jay or secret agents melting a room full of gold and draining it from a hole in the ground then spray painting it to look clean MI style.
Posted by Ian on July 7th, 2009this cumonass guy is absolutely retarded. amazing. I guess its easy to consider anyone anti-american who doesnt have a MASSIVE US flag on their wall. and the stuff about not being able to have an opinion if you’re Canadian for some reason? wtf?
Posted by Goon on July 7th, 2009ha ha rebuttal to cumonass:
Posted by Goon on July 7th, 2009http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=388ndnL9WAQ
This is the reality of YouTube. I don’t understand it, but apparently people like this really do exist. Hopefully he’ll respond to our response.
Posted by Sean on July 7th, 2009Guys, you forgot to give us a link to CumOnAss. Don’t worry, I’ll fix it.

Posted by Rusty James on July 7th, 2009It was already linked further up thread, Justy Rames.
Posted by Goon on July 7th, 2009Is that you, Mr. Goon?
Posted by Falsk on July 7th, 2009whoops. didn’t see it.
this week’s google query I will regret most: cum on ass + filmjunk
Posted by Rusty James on July 7th, 2009Oh, I see. That was posted last week. Whoops! ^^;
Posted by Falsk on July 7th, 2009Comeonass is awesome. He’s like a real-life Transformers equivalent of Kevin McDonald in Senior Trip. I bet he has a life size “Matrix of Leadership” that he jerks off in every night.
Posted by Matt Gamble on July 7th, 2009Especially excellent episode!
The list of 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die from the book can be seen here at Listal: http://www.listal.com/list/1001-movies-you-must-see-padiii
That might not be the latest edition, but I’m pretty sure that this is: http://www.1001beforeyoudie.com/
No Krull and no Good Burger! I don’t think they included documentaries either. What they did was give seemingly equal representation to every time period since the dawn of motion pictures. This means there are a shit ton of silent films and films from the early days.
As for a movie rating system, I’ve been using the imdb.com scale of 1-10 for the last 10 years. I keep a log of my movie ratings at imdb and also rate movies at Netflix and Facebook. It’s easy to convert the 1-10 scale to a 5-star scale if you allow half stars- or you can round up or down (Netflix doesn’t allow half stars). As I am used to this method would not know how to convert to a 4-star rating without being able to use decimals.
Posted by Mason on July 7th, 2009Oh my God, cumonass meets film junk. I’ve watched a couple of this asshole’s videos before, this one being my favourite.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuzQ3PyCjjs
PEOPLE LIKE YOU!!! ARE THE ONES WHO KILLED JESUS.
Posted by Glendon on July 7th, 2009Falsk, I don’t communicate with anyone on FaceBook. So you’re not that special.
I don’t have time for friends. Jay and Sean will attest to that.
BTW, I loved Parker Lewis, because there was a Trekkie nerd as a character named Jerry. I have all the episodes on videotape.
Posted by Reed Farrington on July 7th, 2009Cum On Ass… That’s amazing.
Posted by Henrik on July 7th, 2009I think Goon SHOULD make a youtube response to cumonass.
Posted by Henrik on July 7th, 2009more Doug Nagy please. Best guest you guys have had
Posted by rob on July 8th, 2009More Nagy please. To those bashing Doug, in the words of Doug “fuck you”
Posted by Tolkein on July 8th, 2009Cumonass blew all his material with his 2 months worth of Watchmen bashing videos, now he is just sad and unfunny. This is my fav cumonass video- his reaction to 20th Century Fox winning the lawsuit against Warner Bros over Watchmen, I die of laughter everytime I watch it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utab6t54YWw
Posted by Tolkein on July 8th, 2009It’s funny how Jay calls Reed a fucking idiot for saying genre wrong. I remember when there was a fight going on with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, Jay not only said people who supported Blu-Ray were fucking idiots because HD-DVD had better technology (ummmm, Blu-Ray clearly had better technology, and that is the reason it won), but he also called HD (High-Definition) for High-Densation.
Maybe you should stop calling people for fucking idiots alle the time, because you sometimes are one of them.
Sorry for my bad English.
Posted by Eva Braum on July 8th, 2009“Che” was released in UK recently (dvd and blu-ray) with both parts in one package. DVD is region 2 but I don’t know if the blu-ray is region free.
Posted by Andreas on July 8th, 2009Watchmen Preacher said ”One dude that sounded like Seth Rogan”
Finally someone i can agree with, Greg DOES sound like Seth Rogan.
Posted by kikz on July 8th, 2009A nice FlimJunk “Reed” t-shirt will calm Cumonass down
Posted by modesilver on July 8th, 2009“…he also called HD (High-Definition) for High-Densation.”
I believe the two terms that kept popping up were “High-Density” and “High-Denstiny.” I don’t think that you fully grasp his sense of humor.
Posted by Neil M on July 8th, 2009Eva, Jay knew what HD meant and a few shows ago was still calling it High Density.
Cumonass is a tool.
And Doug is awesome. Stories about breasts and LSD is alright in my book!
And Sean, when is Alicia or Singe going to be on!
Google that bitch!
Posted by AdamH on July 8th, 2009Oh and barbarian sluts! Next time Nagy is on, itd be great to hear his top 5 barbarian movies
Posted by AdamH on July 8th, 2009Eva Braum, thx for coming to my defense, but I’m afraid that Jay is right even though he has clearly rubbed you the wrong way. Jay’s mistakes are all on purpose whereas mine are all because I am an idiot.
I can’t bring myself to search out what C******* has been saying about Film Junk. I find his name repulsive. modesilver, I’d be totally embarrassed to see my face on C*******.
BTW, what does C******* think of Reed?
Posted by Reed Farrington on July 8th, 2009Reed, it sounds as if he has never listened to the podcast before or visited the site before. He knew no ones name and referred to greg as the seth rogen sound a like. Im thinking he just listened to that episode because he’s a total transformers and michael bay worshipper and didn’t like the fact that the guys shit all over the movie. I didn’t watch all the video but im pretty sure you aren’t mentioned.
Posted by AdamH on July 8th, 2009Thx for the info, AdamH.
Would someone who knows C******* please let him know that I loved the first Transformers movie and I enjoy Michael Bay films in general, even “The Island.” I do have to say though that Bay’s response to Megan Fox’s criticism of the new Transformers movie diminished my respect for him as a person.
Posted by Reed Farrington on July 8th, 2009Noone will tell him Reed
first, he wouldn’t visit here reguarly and 2nd I hope he does a video on you, so I wouldn’t wanna get you in his good books
Posted by AdamH on July 8th, 2009I’m no girl scout, but Doug Nagy brings nothing to FilmJunk but profanity and rainbows, and has made both episodes he’s appeared on borderline unmissable. He uses the word “fuck” like a verbal tic and his tangents are incredible. Please please make Doug a permanent addition to the show
Posted by Bunyip on July 8th, 2009I agree that the sound mixing in Public Enemies was weird. Everytime there was a shot of characters inside a car, the dialoge seemed quiet/distant, then it would abruptly change in the next shot. I screened two prints one running in DTS and the other in Dolby Digital, and both prints had this issue most notably through the first two reels, although I don’t think there was a physical problem with the prints.
I remember running projection for Miami Vice and many customers complained the dialoge was too quiet. In that film, I think the dialoge was loud enough, but was occasionally hard to separate from other noises; it felt “buried” in the mix.
If this is a concious decision by the director, I don’t like it. If I am watching a movie and perceive there is a sound problem, it takes me out of it. It was definately bothering the hell out of me during the screening.
Posted by Ovenball on July 9th, 2009Oh GOD!
Had to stop my cooking to say:
I LOVE REED!!
“Geneer” (as in pronouncing “genre”)
I laughed out loud in the kitchen, Love you guys!
Btw Greg? “Stuck on You” is awesome. It´s funny pretty much all the time.
Posted by ColinZeal on July 9th, 2009=)
Now that I think about it, I wonder why I didn’t pronounce “genre” as “jenner” like in Bruce Jenner since I’ve always pronounced “centre” correctly. Oh, wait, maybe I should have pronounced it “geener.” I can’t even make mistakes correctly! Anyway, take my word for it, by the 23rd century, everyone will be pronouncing “genre” as “geneer.”
ColinZeal, I love you right back (in a platonic sense). I should move to Denmark. The Danish “get” me for some reason.
Posted by Reed Farrington on July 9th, 2009I’m pretty sure the pronunciation comes from the fact that it’s a French word.
Posted by Sean on July 9th, 2009About the cumonass thing.
I remember when he first started his rant, which was about Watchmen. The movie site Spill.com made so much fun of him (something they still do today, even in their blog posts), he started attacking those people in his videos. He refers to them as the American haters when he talks about you guys at the beginning of the Youtube clip.
Posted by La Menthe on July 10th, 2009Unlike Spill, i think you guys handled the situation very well. You answered the man with real answers, something Spill didn’t, which ended up with fight that is still going on. I’m anywhay happy i left Spill for Filmjunk. The crew, and the members over there are a bunch of idiots.
Sorry for my bad English, I’m French.
Reed:
Posted by ColinZeal on July 10th, 2009Hehehe wait what? Move to Denmark? Because I love you in a platonic sense?
To quote you:
“I can’t even make mistakes correctly”
Indeed.
I´m in Sweden, touché.
Cumonass has removed the attack video, and even used a clip of filmjunk as one of his videos. Guess you guys won him over.
