It’s a paycheck sure, but it’s what makes him known. Saying that you should not be judged by what you just did for the money is hypocritical. Of course you should, and if you don’t want to be, you should be less greedy.

As it stands, this guy is a loser like in the show, works in the same place, yells at his mom etc. I thik the trailer is deliberately trying to remind us that this is the funny guy from a popular TV show, like I said maybe the movie will work better (or, for fans of his King of Queens work, worse).

Has Jay already told the story on a Film Junk podcast about sitting in front of Patton Oswalt in a movie theatre?

I’ve been a die hard fan of patton for years, and have never once seen an episode of King of Queens, and I intend to keep it that way. Even Patton has publically admitted it was a paycheck and it was mediocre. I should know, I’ve met him. You can even see me in the front row of one of his stand-up dvds. I’m a big fan.

Patton was comedy gold on that show: The geeky-nerd stuff he was into reminds me a lot of my co-workers in the game/film industry. The episode where he wanted to go to a Dark Shadows convention in his Barnabas Collins costume was hilarious, as was the episode where he camped out in line before the premier of “The Legend of Grun” I worked around tons of guys like Spence Olchen and see him in them. Try going to Comic-Con or E3 and the place is crawling with meek and socially akward Spence Olchens.

I hope he gets very famous from this because I find him a lot funnier than most of the popular comedy brat-pack guys I see popping up in the same films again and again

If you only know Patton from King of Queens its an indictment on you, not him.

but to me when you say “the problem with the trailer is X is in the role” I assume you also mean its a crit of the movie, because to me when you’re critting who’s in the role, that extends beyond the trailer.

I was always talking about the trailer Goon. I am not talking about the movie, since I haven’t seen it yet.
