Monday Morning Box Office Report: Ice Age and Transformers Grapple Over Acorn

boxofficejuly6_09

A tie? Over the July 4th weekend?! Wow, what are the odds? Apparently Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen both made exactly $42.5 million, which sounds a bit fishy to me. I’m wondering if someone may have overestimated their numbers just slightly, but we’ll probably find out the truth in the next day or so. At any rate, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is now comfortably the #1 movie of the year, with a total of $293 million domestically and $591 million worldwide. And it’s still got at least one more solid week to go before Harry Potter hits theatres. Public Enemies had a decent, although not spectacular debut, with $26.2 million, while comedies The Proposal and The Hangover rounded out the Top 5. It should be interested to see what happens next week when Bruno enters the fray.
