Resident Evil 4 Gets a Title and Release Date

Well it looks like we’ve finally got something more to report on the next installment in Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil movie franchise. Although this is still not entirely official, Shock Till You Drop has it on good authority that Resident Evil 4 is a go and will be aiming for a release date of September 17, 2010. The new movie is apparently being called Resident Evil: Afterlife.
As expected, the fourth chapter will have nothing to do with Resident Evil 4 the video game, and instead will pick up where the last movie, Resident Evil: Extinction, left off. That will probably mean a shift in setting to the Umbrella Headquarters in Tokyo. No word yet on whether or not Milla Jovovich will return, but I really can’t see them doing it without her. The only RE movie I’ve seen is Extinction, which never really lived up to its potential. Unless they come up with a cool new idea to revitalize the franchise, I’ll probably count myself out of the next one. Will you pay to see another Resident Evil flick?

This movie is like a zombie. It is dead but it just keeps coming back.
Posted by BigHungry on July 2nd, 2009I don’t even understand why they are calling the franchise Resident Evil. All the first one had in similarity with the game is that there were zombies, took place in a mansion, and had Umbrella. I heard that George A. Romero had originally written a script for the movie that was much more faithful to the source material. I think that would have been more interesting than what they have made.
Posted by Nick D on July 2nd, 2009This is a franchise that makes me ask the same questions that Greg did about Transformers 2…why change everything that made the original story so good?
Posted by Ryan M. on July 2nd, 2009Im a huge fan of the videogame series and have gone into these movies with the same open mindset each time. Although the films incorporate some of the names of the main characters they still have yet to make an exciting movie. Part one was passable but two and three felt like they were exhausting every last character and my attention.
Posted by Chris M on July 2nd, 2009So, although i am not to excited for the new entry i would pay to see it b/c it looks like it would focus around wesker and would be set in tokyo.
Hey, it’s Leeloo Minai Lekarariba-Laminai-Tchai Ekbat De Sebat, I love her!
Posted by Shut-Up Ed on July 2nd, 2009I’d watch Mila reading the newspaper for 2 hours, so this will definately be a guilty-pleasure rental.
Resident Evil: Extinction is light years ahead of Transformers 2 or 300 as far as I’m concerned.
