Michael Jackson Dies of Heart Attack
Well it’s not movie news specifically, but it’s too huge not to post about. Right after the news of Farrah Fawcett’s passing today, Michael Jackson has reportedly passed away due to a heart attack. It’s a pretty surreal headline, but it now seems to have been confirmed from multiple sources. Not much is known except that he collapsed at his home in west Los Angeles and was rushed to the hospital in a coma where he was then pronounced dead. He was 50 years old.
Although he’s become a pretty strange, reclusive and controversial figure in recent years, The King of Pop had a massive impact on the music and entertainment industry over the years. In addition to his tremendous musical talent, his music videos have always pushed the medium forward (”Thriller” is arguably the best music video ever made), while his other artistic experiments such as the 3-D film Captain EO were pretty interesting at the time. His cameo in Men In Black II was pretty awesome as well. A sad day indeed.

I probably watched the making of Thriller video at least fifty times when I was a kid. It was the first thing I’d ever seen that really took you behind the scenes and showed you step by step how they made it. It first introduced me to John Landis and Rick Baker and is really one of the things that lead me to wanting to make movies myself.

Posted by Rick on June 26th, 2009In fact, he apparantly WAS working on a new album. I was always hoping for some redemption for him, but I guess that just wasn’t meant to be. As for all the allegations of abuse – we’ll never know for sure if that was real. At least I always thought it was very suspect that those parents settled out of court instead of pursuing jailtime for the man that supposedly abused their child.

With his estate being reported bankrupt there will be lots of people free to talk and more looking to write books to get any remaining blood from this stone.
