I've been to reality. It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

I am always up for directors borrowing elements and letting their influences shine through, but this movie seems to go too far. It's like it's stealing literally every idea Charlie Kaufman has had for the past 10 years. But yes, it's just a trailer so hopefully the movie will still manage to set itself apart enough to be enjoyable.

oh come'on, sean. Rip off? have you BEEN to reality? there's nothing new on film since Aristotle. can't we just enjoy an unconventional premise offered up in the hands of some of the greatest actors around? who cares who it can be compared to if it provides a couple hours of entertaining escape where we can eat our popcorn and in peace and not worry about cleaning up crumbs?

I for one can't wait to see this.

It may be ripping off Kaufman, but it looks pretty good. Paul Giamatti is always interesting to watch. The poster looks good too.

heh, it seems my comment on your "Away We Go" review got ya interested in this, Sean?

It really is sad how shameless the Kaufman-cribbing is in this. It's funny because you can easily steal plot points and stylistic nuance from any number of films these days and chances are it'll probably go unnoticed. To steal from a Kaufman film though is really very stupid. His writing is SO distinctive that to try to even mimic general tone is obvious!

Maybe it's a filmic response to reality television's obsession with showing us star's home lives. Maybe we'll see a new flock of movies that star actors playing versions of themselves getting into strange situations.

I hope we see a movie where Crispin Glover as himself becomes a big leading man and has a crisis of the soul, becoming sick of his new found celebrity he has his brain swapped into one of the Down's Syndrome actors from "What is it?"...kinda like Face/Off! Or maybe one about Nick Nolte as Nick Nolte deciding that he wants to move to Japan and become a breeder of Kobe beef cows. Scenes of Nolte feeding cows beer and massaging their hides while waxing poetic on the meaning of life ensue...Or maybe a movie where an undersea mining crew discovers a hole in the bottom of the ocean that leads into the brain Lindsey Lohan and when you get there it's a vast blackness with white powder floors and you're exited onto the White House lawn with an eating disorder...
