Whiteout Trailer Starring Kate Beckinsale

From The Thing to 30 Days of Night to Fargo, isolated communities in cold weather conditions have made ideal settings for some pretty creepy movies over the years. The new Kate Beckinsale thriller Whiteout takes us to an area of Antarctica that can go without sun for over six months. She plays a U.S. Marshal who is investigating the continent’s first murder, trying to track down a killer before the sun sets and plunges her into darkness.

Whiteout is based on a graphic novel by Greg Rucka (Queen & Country, 52, Checkmate) who also wrote one of the segments for the Batman: Gotham Knight animated movie. The trailer doesn’t show much and relies mostly on a voice over, which makes it seem somewhat generic, but at least it does a decent job of creating a sense of mystery. Director Dominic Sena’s resume isn’t the most impressive (Swordfish, Gone in Sixty Seconds) but I do think this could have potential. Whiteout hits theatres on September 11th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.

  1. Well, the visuals look awesome but that voice over was pretty crappy. It felt tacked on at the last minute or something… I don’t know.

That said, I’m anticipating this one. I’ve loved the Antarctica concept for movies ever since I first saw The Thing.

  2. This trailer only makes me want to see John Carpenter’s – “The Thing”

I actually like the voice over. Gives it an old feel – that I like.
I think I will wait for the reviews on this one. I will at least see this at home.

  3. Just so I’m sure I have this straight – Kate Beckinsale, one of the most beautiful women in the world – and a brit – as a U.S. Marshal? In Antartica?

Well, if we can get her out of that coat – maybe a shower scene or a “we need to share our body heat to survive” scene – we should have a winner.

  4. well I´ve been waiting for this for a long time now..didn´t they make like 2 years ago?
