The Time Traveller’s Wife Trailer Starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Banana… I Mean Bana

The first trailer for the upcoming sci-fi romance The Time Traveller’s Wife hit the web over the weekend, based on the best-selling novel by Audrey Niffenegger. The movie stars Eric Bana as a man who has a strange genetic disorder that causes him to shift through time uncontrollably, leading to complications in his marriage to the woman he loves (played by Rachel McAdams). I didn’t know much about the book previously, but after watching the trailer I am immediately reminded of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in that this is first and foremost a drama, but it uses sci-fi as an interesting tool to explore relationships and life in general.
The thing that makes The Time Traveller’s Wife slightly less promising, however, is the fact that it doesn’t have a director like David Fincher behind it. Director Robert Schwentke previously did the Jodie Foster thriller Flightplan and the pilot episode of the Tim Roth TV series Lie to Me. I also wonder if it’s being released at the wrong time since it hits theatres on August 14th, putting it up against District 9, The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, The Perfect Getaway and Taking Woodstock (among others). Still, perhaps the popularity of the book will help carry it through. Has anyone out there read the book? What did you think of the trailer?

I don’t know about the trailer, because it seems very standard to me. Like there’s nothing very special about it. But I love this book, so I’m hoping it translates well into film…

Posted by Matt on June 15th, 2009I read the book, it was fantastic! In the trailer though they spill almost every surprise like Alba! And they make it seem so sappy when it is not. I’m just hoping they don’t totally destroy the book.
Posted by Rachel on June 15th, 2009Eric Banadinovich is his real name if I recall correctly. This is also the way I prenounce his name.
Posted by ColinZeal on June 15th, 2009I’m not sure about the trailer. It seems to focus solely on the relationship and not on the mystery that we, as the audience are charged with figuring out. I hope that they dont change what i feel, is the essence and interesting part of the book.
Posted by Gigi on June 16th, 2009The trailer hints another superb acting display of two gifted actors. Have not read the book, probably never will. Unusual story. I shall be glued to my seat when it gets to Australia. Try not to think too much. Enjoy it.
