Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Hangover Not Over

Last week The Hangover just barely slipped by Pixar’s Up once all the final box office numbers had been tabulated, but this week its win was a little more clear cut. Strong word of mouth helped The Hangover to claim the box office for the second weekend in a row with another $33 million take, while Up stayed at #2 with $30 million in its third week. Tony Scott’s The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 had an okay debut, earning $25 million, which was good enough for the third spot. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Land of the Lost rounded out the top 5, with Land of the Lost falling 51% in its second week. Eddie Murphy vehicle Imagine That opened at #6 with $5.7 million, which is about on par with his last film Meet Dave, but nowhere near as good as Norbit. I guess you need Eddie Murphy in a fat suit if you really want to catch people’s interest.
