dan: bad boy bubby is a particularly distasteful slice of life about a retarded kid who becomes a rock star by screaming/singing. You could say Timmy from Southpark is a fair template. He has an uber-disfunctional family and there are issues with his mom, real intimate issues.
Hard to watch and oddly not that memorable either….

Seconding that Greg’s adventure would make a decent short film. Actually there are a number of indie films that would kill to have that plot exactly as it is. Less happens in Wendy and Lucy.

I thought Bigger Stronger Faster: The side effects of being American was a great documentary that managed to be pretty well balanced and still very entertaining, educational and interesting.

Fatbologna: I have seen Lake of Fire. I liked it quite a bit and I agree it is very balanced. Pretty amazing actually.

Matt: Definitely hoping to check out more Ozploitation films in the near future. I’ve had a lot of fun with the ones I’ve seen so far.

I was wondering if anyone had checked out the Abortion Doc “Lake of Fire” by Tony Kaye (American History X)? It does a good job of straddling the line between for or against and tries it’s best to be un-biased. It’s looong but very interesting and often quite hard to take in how unflinching (rightfully so) it is in regards to showing the end result of abortions as well as the murder victims of ant-abortionists. I’d be interested to know if Jay has seen it and if he has, what he thought of it.

I’d be for The Rock starring in a Commando remake if he was playing The Rock. Having him torch a bunch of Nicaraguan’s with a flame thrower while dropping “Do you smell what The Rock is cooking?” would arguably be the equal to any of Arnold’s great one liners.

As for great Australian films:

Picnic at Hanging Rock
The Last Wave
Walkabout
The Proposition
Roadgames
Patrick
Dead Calm
Razorback
Long Weekend
The Man From Hong Kong

and that’s just a start. Anything from George Miller, and Richard Franklin, easily the best two Australian genre filmmakers from the 70’s and 80’s. Brian Trenchard-Smith is a pretty damn solid action director that is worth seeking out. Russell Mulcahy is a personal favorite, though most people have only seen Highlander.

But the guy you really should seek out is screenwriter Everette de Roche. Almost every single Ozploitation flick I love he wrote. He’s an outstanding screenwriter and really deserves some recognition.

BTW, Jay you really should put for the effort to find some of these films. They are right up your alley. Crazy camera work, insane stunts, and truly inspired practical effects in even the most low budget of pictures.

Wow, that was a pretty odd and in depth look into Greg’s personal life we got there. All I can say is I DO NOT want to encounter a drunk Greg, and also that I am now currently working on a script about Greg destroying his friendships in a day, quite interesting. It will be called “I’m a Belligerent Drunk”.

Another great episode. I just wanted to add I, too, thought the ending to Drag Me to Hell was perfect. I also saw it coming with the envelope thing, but it was still pretty intense and awesome, and I think the abruptness added to the effect. I agree that Justin Long’s expression right before the cut to the title was perfect. I fucking hate that guy for his smug ass mac ads, but actually thought he was really good in this movie.

Has anyone seen the Australian movie Bad Boy Bubby? I’ve heard it’s supposed to be up there in good australian flicks, but have’nt seen it.
