J.J. Abrams Will Return for Mission: Impossible 4

Well there’s no question that after the success of Star Trek, J.J. Abrams is one of the hottest directors in Hollywood right now. It’s kind of hard to believe that he has only two feature films under his belt, but nevertheless, his stock is currently skyrocketing. Tom Cruise was the one who gave him his first shot at directing a big budget movie with Mission: Impossible 3, and understandably, he is now hoping to lure him back for part 4 as well. While Abrams has yet to agree to direct M:I4, it appears he has at least agreed to come back as producer.

The good folks over at SpoilerTV found this little tidbit in the latest issue of TV Guide where he confirms his involvement:

“I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as producer on Mission: Impossible 4… Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing.”

While M:I3 didn’t gross nearly as much as the previous two flicks, it still made almost $400 million worldwide. Reviews were generally positive, although I know some people happen to think Abrams did a terrible job directing it. Are you ready for another Mission: Impossible movie? Does the involvement of J.J. Abrams make you more or less interested?

  1. Done mith MI. Done with tom. But it will probably make alot a money though, so…

  2. Really looking forward to M:I4, I enjoyed the other 3 immensely.

  3. Yeah I loved MI3. Far, far better than the 2nd. And tom cruise is awesome so yeah pumped!

  4. Never really got interested in watching MI3 as to me it looked like just another big action flick. But back then I didn’t know much about Abrams. Since I enjoyed Star Trek and Cloverfield I’m stoked about this.

I hope they take it to the next step and really do something different. I’m bored of generic action flicks.

  5. I actually liked MI3 way, way better than either of the first two installments. so yeah, couldn’t be happier to see JJ Abrams return for the fourth!

  6. I think that Abrams did a great job on MI3. It is definitely the best of the series.

I suspect that he would come back as a producer rather than as director.

  8. Not a fan of MI:3 personally. I may be in the minority, but I prefer the first 2. The 1’st is the best out of all of them by far, the 2′nd is completely different but a lot of fun, and john woo knows how to shoot action. 3 tries to combine the 1’st and 2′nd movies styles and fails at both. The action just isn’t impressive in the 3rd one at all (because of how close JJ shoots his action), the team infiltration isn’t nearly as cool as in the 1’st, and the story just fizzles out towards the end.

  9. I actually thought MI3 was the best of the three. The only reason it wasn’t a smash hit is because people are tired of Tom Cruise. I recommend they focus on a reboot of the series and make it more of an ensemble move than just focus on one character.
