Neil Patrick Harris to Star in The Best and the Brightest

After struggling for a few years to get away from the typecasting and child star stigma associated with Doogie Howser, M.D., Neil Patrick Harris has now firmly re-established himself as a talented comedic actor thanks to roles in the Harold & Kumar movies, CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, and Joss Whedon’s web series Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Now it looks like he’s ready to breach the big screen once again with a couple of new roles in upcoming films.
Most people seem to be talking about the fact that he has a supporting role in Beastly, a modern retelling of The Beauty and the Beast that also stars Mary-Kate Olsen, Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer. However, the more interesting project in my opinion is The Best and the Brightest, a comedy about a couple who move to New York’s posh Upper East Side and find themselves jumping through hoops in order to get their five-year-old daughter into one of the city’s elite private kindergartens.
The concept sounds like it may have been inspired by a recent documentary called Nursery University, which captures this very real (and very ridiculous) phenomenon where parents compete to get their toddlers into top notch preschools. NPH stars as the father, while Bonnie Somerville (Cashmere Mafia) plays his wife. What has me most interested in this movie, however, is the supporting cast which includes Amy Sedaris, John Hodgman, Peter Serafinowicz, and Christopher McDonald… not to mention Captain Janeway herself, Kate Mulgrew! Are you fan of Neil Patrick Harris? Do you think he deserves to be starring in more high profile comedies?

NPH and Peter Serafinowicz together should be pretty fun.
