New To Theatres This Weekend: Land of the Lost, The Hangover, Away We Go

Two big comedies will battle it out this weekend at the box office, with Will Ferrell and his family-friendly adventure Land of the Lost having the distinct advantage over the underdog The Hangover. Also in select theatres: the Maria Bello thriller Downloading Nancy, and Tennessee starring Mariah Carey! What will you be checking out?

Of the movies coming out this weekend, I am most interested in Land of the Lost and The Hangover.
But if I go to the movies this weekend, it will be to see Drag Me to Hell. I’m a big fan of the Evil Dead movies and after hearing the good reviews I’m planning to check it.
Posted by Nick D on June 5th, 2009I’m most interested in “The Hangover” and “Land of the Lost”(only b/c I lovedd the series as a kid).
Posted by Matt Keith on June 5th, 2009seeing Land of the Lost with Drag me to Hell at the drive in tonight. Low expectations for LOTL, but there are some reviewers I trust who claim its a cult movie in the making a la Zoolander. We’ll see.
Posted by Goon on June 5th, 2009Drag Me To Hell was solid, obviously, but I didnt think it was perfect as you guys did.
Land of the Lost beat expectations based on reviews. While its got Hollywood CGI Adventure all over it and as such plays conventionally, its Ferrell and McBride scribbling outside the lines and the way they react to things that made it better than expected. With a different director this could have been great rather than merely passable. I’d watch it again maybe.
Posted by Goon on June 6th, 2009I have to agree with Goon on Drag Me To Hell.
Posted by Neil M on June 6th, 2009Devin liked Land of the Lost more than I did, but he says most of the same things I would in defence of it:

I can’t believe Land of the Lost is getting trashed the way that it is. I had a good time with it. But I’m the type of person who loved the idea of Ferrell constantly chirping that T-Rex from the beginning, so maybe it’s just my type of movie.
