David Carradine 1936-2009

It’s a sad day my friends… Kung Fu star David Carradine was found dead in a hotel in Bangkok this week where he was shooting his new movie Stretch. The cause of death is not yet known, but it is currently under investigation. There have been reports of a possible suicide, but that is not yet confirmed. He was 72 years old. I’ll update this post as more info becomes available.
What are your favourite Carradine roles from over the years? Will he now be forever remembered as Poon Dong from Crank: High Voltage?

Posted by Film-Book dot Com on June 4th, 2009To be honest I did not like the Kung Fu show when I was younger, but I can appreciate it now that I’m older. ….GrassHopper no more Hop…
Posted by Big Hungry on June 4th, 2009He always seemed like a real cool guy who was OK with his lot in life. It’s sad to see that he apparently hung himself.. Here’s hoping he was murdered and it was set up to look like suicide.

Posted by Ryan M. on June 4th, 2009I think he would be more remembered for his performance in Kill Bill than in Crank: High Voltage, at least to the younger generations.
It is sad to hear of his passing.

happens all the time to old guys, the old dragon gets reborn and they have to fight like hell to get it down.
R.I.P. Kung Fu Master
Posted by rus in chicago on June 4th, 2009Poon Dong? Jesus! Maybe I need to check out CRANK 2.
When I was a kid, they played “Kung Fu” reruns every Saturday and Sunday. I loved that show.
Posted by Phil G on June 4th, 2009Aw man. That’s too bad. No more wandering the Earth and getting into adventures for him.
Posted by Ian on June 4th, 2009Maybe he is the third of the “always in threes” rule…along with Dom Deluise and Bea Arthur. Unfortunate and sad.
Posted by Justice on June 4th, 2009I’ll always remember him for Death Race 2000. I saw it at the drive-in when I was a kid, and my mom made us go to sleep in the back seat when the massage scene came on. Of course we peeked over the front seat to keep watching. My brothers and I used to watch Kung Fu also. I haven’t seen it since it was originally on, but I remember liking him in it. I’m not a fan of the Kill Bill movies, but I though he was good in them. It’s sad to see him go, especially in such a tragic way.

Actor David Carradine was set to co-star in the feature film entitled PORTLAND shooting in Los Angeles, CA and Portland, OR this summer.
Los Angeles, CA, June 4, 2009 – The cast, crew, and producing team behind the feature film Portland are shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic passing of co-star David Carradine on the eve of principal photography.
Portland was set to be David’s next film and was his only project currently in pre-production. Helmed by Matthew Mishory, the picture stars Erin Daniels, Jonathan Caouette, Steven Martini, Renee Victor, and Alex Schemmer. Carradine was set to play a pivotal role in the film and this has been a great loss for the entire PORTLAND family. “An actor of David Carradine’s stature behind our film meant the world to us,” said executive producers Adrian Salpeter and Elizabeth Levine of Random Bench Productions. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time”.
The team is committed to this film and are considering other actors to replace the irreplaceable David Carradine. The producers and all involved are moving forward with the production in his memory.
Mr. Carradine was truly a living legend of stage and screen, having worked with Martin Scorsese, Hal Ashby, Ingmar Bergman, and Quentin Tarantino, among many others, in a career that spanned nearly five decades.
Writer/director Matthew Mishory adds, “every filmmaker aspires to work with an iconic actor like David Carradine, he was one of a kind”.
Posted by Random Bench Productions on June 5th, 2009He was a well paid Hollywood actor and now his website is looking for donations? WTF!
