Toy Story 3 Trailer

Just thought a couple of you might be interested in this… it’s a quaint little indie flick that not many people have heard of yet. There’s no actual footage from the movie itself, but it’s still nice to be re-united with old friends! Toy Story 3 is directed by Lee Unkrich and hits theatres on June 18th, 2010.

  1. Well, there it is.

  2. Pixar is running the risk of garnering bad reviews from more than just that one douche if they start doing the sequel thing at an obnoxious rate.

  3. Obnoxious rate?

You consider four years between Toy Story and Toy Story 2 and nine years between 2 and 3 obnoxious?

Or do you just think a 3rd or 4th movie is just obnoxious regardless of time between and/or quality?

  4. Obnoxious rate? How many sequels have Pixar done? TS 2 which was 4 years from the first and what else? Unless you were sarcastic?

Either way looking forward to this. Other than Cars which I consider their weakest movie, Pixar is virtually a can’t do wrong studio…well they did merge with Disney…but hey no is perfect.

  5. if it’s as good as the first two who cares?

  6. Can’t say the teaser particularly wowed me, but I’m excited for the movie anyway.

I think by, “obnoxious rate,” Ryan was referring to the fact that Pixar will be churning out sequels instead of original films for the next three summers:

    2010: Toy Story 3
    2011: Cars 2
    2012: Monsters Inc. 2

And while I’m excited for the Toy Story and Monsters Inc. sequels, it is a little disappointing to know that no new projects are on the horizon for the next quarter decade. I think that’s what Ryan was getting at.

Then again, if any studio’s earned the right to indulge in a few sequels, it’s Pixar.

  7. After all, Tim Allen has a furious coke-habit to support.

  8. I recall reading somewhere that Pixar was making the sequels to keep Disney from stepping in and strip-mining their intellectual properties.

Based on the number of direct-to-dvd Cinderella and Little Mermaid movies my niece owns, I’d say it’s a good thing Pixar is handling it internally.

  9. Oh, I forgot to mention -

My only concern with Pixar turning out sequels is the risk of making the originals look outdated (especially with the advent of home HD). When the inevitable Toy Story trilogy set comes out, I wonder how Toy Story 1 will look compared to Toy Story 3.

Not good… Toy Story is one of my favorite movies, it’s one of the first movies I saw, but rewatching it and comparing it to the technical quality of something like Wall-E the computer animation is rough in spots. But it was there first and THE first feature length computer animated film, so it’s forgivable.

  11. And they do have some original projects in the works. Newt is currently in production being directed by sound designer Gary Rydstrom, so that should be interesting.

Technical quality is the issue in this case. Unfortunately, unless we’re talking about a novelty use of outdated computer animation (like an 8-bit music video), I don’t think computer animated films will age well. Perhaps that’s why Pixar spends so much time working on great storytelling.

uhhhh the only sequel I know of is Toy Story 3. In 2011 is The Bear and The Bow and in 2012 is Newt. No idea Cars 2 or Monster’s Inc. 2 was coming out.
