  3. I just came back from a research trip in Kenya studying colonial history, working on my doctorate from the University of London.

    As you may know Kenya handles many of the Somali pirate trials, so it’s a hot topic in that part of the world.

    I met many experts on the subject while I was there. Including one who had some inside connections to the issue. He knows pirate financiers personally. What he told me shocked me.

    The Somali pirates, are financing an independent film production that tells the story of the piracy from their perspective.

    They’ve hired american filmmakers to produce this film. The money used to finance the film literally comes from the pirates ransom payments and the gun-running businesses they’ve invested in.

    More to come. Apparently there is a website promoting this, but I haven’t found it just yet…
