Fanboys 2 in the Works?

fanboys2

A lot has been said about Kyle Newman’s Fanboys, which just came out on DVD this week after a couple years of delays, reshoots and an extremely limited theatrical release. The general consensus seems to be that no matter how bad the movie actually may be, it could have done a lot better if The Weinstein Company hadn’t tried to hack up the movie and then went ahead and completely bungled the release anyway. Still, after all the headaches, arguments and disappointments, would you believe that a Fanboys sequel might still be a possibility?

Moviehole recently sat down to talk with Dan Fogler, one of the film’s stars, who claims that Kyle Newman has an idea for a sequel where the characters regroup for a second mission. This time around they would be heading to Australia to “crash the set of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones“. He hints that they would probably look to shoot it as an independent film this time around so they can avoid any studio interference. “If you want to do it right, do it independently… If he could come up with the right script, and get everyone together again, I would definitely do it.” The concept for this potential sequel doesn’t sound anymore appealing to me, but I have to admit, it would be an awesome slap to the face of the Weinsteins if they could pull it off (and make even more money in the process). What do you think, are you interested in seeing a Fanboys 2?

  1. I just watched Fanboys and it was just terrible. Now I don’t know how much Weinstein interference had with this cut but man it was embarrassing for most involved. Seth Rogen was funny though.

  2. Hell yes. Loved the first one.

  3. Heck yea! Do a poll to decide what fatal disease the friend should have this time.

    Lx

  4. If you watch the commentary for Fanboys (which is actually better than the movie), you’ll get a quick rundown of the sequel.

The studios completely interfered. If you watch the commentary, you’ll figure this out, as these guys are absolutely hilarious together. They also constantly talk about scenes that were cut, that sounded really funny, including the Ewok gangbang.

As you watch the DVD commentary and especially towards the end and the credits, you’ll notice they don’t really give a lot of credit to any of the producers. There’s a quick thanks to Kevin Spacey for negotiating with Lucas, and that’s about it.

I loved the giant shlongs on the Kirk and Khan statues. That whole scene had me spitting milk out of my nose, and I wasn’t even drinking milk!

They say Fanboys 2 is going to be independent. They don’t want it to be completely ripped apart as the last one was.

    I look forward to it.

  5. This movie got such a bad rep, and I have no idea why. Maybe I’m just a huge star wars nerd, but even my non fanboy friends thought this shit was hysterical. It’s fucking gold. Fuck everyone that disagrees. Regardless of what was cut, they kept the cancer sub plot(which was my only initial gripe), which added to it. This movie made me laugh my fuckin ass off, and kinda brought me back to 98, when my friends and I were all waiting for episode I. Instantly one of my favorite films. And Im fucking picky. Sequel? sure why not. Doubt it would be as good as the 1st, but I’d buy it.

  6. Fanboys 2 would be awesome, funniest film ever for Star Wars fans. Please make a number 2

  7. This was an amazing movie, it even made me cry at the end, because my friend died of cancer and never enjoyed the next 3 Starwars. If Movie criticism has come down to this Swarez dude at the top there then we have a big problem because there was more feeling in that movie then most productions i have seen. So yes I would like to see a Fanboys 2 maybe 3 if people will allow it.
