ABC’s V Remake Trailer

With all the various TV networks unveiling their fall line-ups this week, we’re getting our first look at many of the new shows for 2009. Among them: ABC’s remake of the popular ’80s sci-fi series V. For the uninitiated, the story examines what would happen if alien ships suddenly appeared above major cities and tried to make contact with humans in an apparent mission of peace. A two-and-a-half minute trailer has been released online, and you know what? It actually looks pretty decent.
The new version is loaded with well-known sci-fi talent including Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet on Lost), Alan Tudyk and Morena Baccarin (Firefly), Joel Gretsch (The 4400), and Laura Vandervoort (Smallville). This, combined with some decent FX work, means we might actually have a show that survives for more than three or four episodes! The only question is whether or not it will seem too similar to recently failed shows like Invasion, Threshold and Jericho. (As I mentioned in a previous post, shows like this are better suited for specialty channels rather than network primetime where bigger numbers are expected.) Check out the preview below and see what you think.

while its overloaded with pretty people the way that only network TV can provide, i’m interested.
Posted by Goon on May 21st, 2009They need Beastmaster and Capt’n Oliver Hudson to complete the roster. I know they’re older now but they made that show great!
Posted by Ian on May 21st, 2009Hehehe.. I for one can´t wait to get to see this. I still love the original miniseries.
Posted by ColinZeal on May 21st, 2009I read the script for the pilot episode and I was surprised with how good it was. Can’t wait to see this.
Posted by Slushie Man on May 21st, 2009The original V is awesome… I’m very interested to see this one. Good stuff.
Posted by Jon Rocks on May 22nd, 2009Well then, this looks AMAZING.
Posted by Gabriel Benamy on May 22nd, 2009I hope the keep the sound effects from the original show (or at least give them a modern spin). Something about those lazer sounds, and the spaceships.. looks like they already ditched the ‘flanger/distortion’ vocal effect that the Aliens had in the original.
Posted by dunk on May 22nd, 2009The original had memorable characters whereas this one feels flat. But at least the effects will be better. Can’t wait to see the reptilians…hopefully not obviously CGI’ed.
Posted by Tomas on May 22nd, 2009I only wish that it was not on the cancel-happy ABC. I don’t expect it to last a whole season. It should have gone to a more stable network like CBS or cable.
Posted by kcmc20 on May 23rd, 2009That looks awesome. I don’t care if its on ABC, as long as its not on FOX. I’m cool with it.
Posted by Dartainian on May 24th, 2009I wasn’t all that crazy about the series itself, but, man, did I LOVE the mini-series that came before! Robert Englund, Dumpster diving, warbling, “Mousies, mousies.” Are you kidding? THAT was TV. Har!
Seriously, I’m anxious to see how they handle the remake. If it’s half as good as BSG, I’ll be happy. The trailer looks fantastic, but trailers can be deceiving, as we all know.
Too bad it’s on ABC – the killer of all good shows.
Posted by DianeB on June 15th, 2009Does anyone know if any of the original cast have cameos?
Posted by Vfan on June 16th, 2009Are you kidding me? ABC is the leader in Sci-Fi. NBC has killed it and called it syfy.
Posted by Joe on July 26th, 2009Make it very dark and bleak. Make it feel like it could really happen. I’ll definitely watch it then.
I like the whole religion/faith overtone. Kinda mirrors the whole science vs religion debate going on in society today.
Posted by Bob on July 27th, 2009I LOVED the original series, much because of it characters. They were believable, even though the plot (evil nazis from space who even had a slightly modified swastika as a logo) was not.
Posted by Anders Svenneby on July 28th, 2009I particulary liked the Carl Sagan-lookalike scientist
I loved the orgional and have been hoping for years that they would make an update that was at least as good as the orgional but with modern effects.
I am however disappointed not to see Micheal Ironside in the cast! I don’t care if he is old, he is still a GREAT fit for these types of shows and a fantastic TV actor. Hopefully they will fit him in someplace (and not just to kill him!)
Posted by Job Bob on August 1st, 2009I hope that it does the original justice…but yes I am interested. I was a big fan of the original back in the 80’s. I would love to see Robert Englund do a cameo or at least a small part in it.
Posted by Eric on August 12th, 2009They have to get Diana in!!! She made the 1st one!!!
Posted by sean on August 13th, 2009I loved the original. Hope this one is good, too. But I will miss Diana’s dramatic evilness!
Posted by Matt on August 28th, 2009looks good, loved the original, effects will be better these days, and lets hope they make it past one season.
Posted by john on September 23rd, 2009The parallels to Obama are incredible. I can’t believe ABC would air this.

LOL! Look, ya’ll know me. I’m no blue dog or republicrat, but that shit is HI-larious.
Posted by Dave on October 2nd, 2009The ABC version looks like it may have been influenced by Arthur C. Clarke’s Childhoods End as well as the original V. We will see how it all pieces together.
Posted by Arthur on October 8th, 2009Does anyone know what the song on the trailer is? I completely love it.
Posted by Gin on October 17th, 2009Hey, it’s a show about Obama supporters!
Posted by Bobby on October 26th, 2009I thought this show “smelled” familiar!!
Curious to watch and see what I remember..if anything. Don’t know if they will use some old ideas or if I will remember what I saw years ago!! LOL
Posted by Kristin on October 28th, 2009The song in the trailer is “Uprising” by Muse. I loved it to and downloaded the song and can’t stop playing it!!
