Why does this film have explosions. It’s a pet peeve of mine that a film, no matter the context will feature colourful pyrotechnics. Doesn’t matter if it’s set in Victorian Era England or on a desert island, there will always be enough barrels of blackpowder/rum/etc for a big explosion from which the hero can either jump away with microseconds to spare or even worse… walk away slowly (because he’s a badass, right?)

I thought Sherlock Holmes was the definition of a sleuth. A mystery thriller or who-dun-it. Instead we get Sherlock Holmes The Cage-Fighter. What the Christ?

I enjoyed the trailer. I like the idea of a Sherlock Holmes flick because it will expose younger audiences to the character’s legend. It does kind of look like they’re making him out to be a superhero and shooting the movie in a similar fashion. I’m glad Law is going back to playing ugly guys with substance, he seems to have a lot of talent for that. But I’m not excited to see Rachel McAdams in this flick. She’s clearly only there to provide the required ass for the film and I guess to prove that however much chemistry they have, holmes and watson are not gay. I can’t wait till it comes out.

other than the slo-mo (which for all i know works in the context of the film) I dont see what all the fuss is about. It looks fun and thats all a Ritchie produced Holmes movie should be expected of.

Oh boy here we go. People are picking the trailer apart!

I personally liked the trailer a lot. The movie feels like it’s made for a modern audience (which it should) and yet it captures the feel of the past. One thing that I did not like was the slow-mo fighting scenes. The comedy was a pleasant surprise to me! RDJ is killing it!

Seems a bit more ‘Van Helsing’ than ‘Indy’ to me, but Robert Downey Jr. looks like he is making it worth the watch, like Depp did with the Pirates flicks.

hmmm … I think I’m less excited now. But that could just be all the trailer moment crap. The Holmes/Watson chemistry looks good. Though I wonder if the plot isn’t riffing on young Sherlock Holmes?

It’s a weird trailer. I kind of feel it wants to be something else yet it’s shot like a modern day adventure. I guess it’s just me since I was kind of expecting a period piece with modern sensibilities, but the whole things just look modern, from the acting to the cinematography.

Sometimes things just don’t need to be entirely modernized…they just need to be done well with some things added.

What does it matter when it’s set? a technique can only be out of place in the “piece”…the content shouldn’t matter either way. It all depends on the tone.
