Call of Duty Movie in the Works
Looks like we’ve got yet another video game being lined up for the big screen, and to be honest, I’m kind of surprised we hadn’t heard about this one sooner. Activision is reportedly in early discussions to turn their hit World War II series Call of Duty into a movie, along with the wildly popular online fantasy game World of Warcraft (which we already knew about). The news comes from a Hollywood Reporter article that also claims they are looking to turn Guitar Hero into a reality TV show of some sort.
Legendary Pictures (300, The Dark Knight) is the company that holds the rights to World of Warcraft, but they haven’t done much with it so far. It remains to be seen if they may be the ones interested in the Call of Duty license as well. Personally, I’m always up for a good WWII movie, but it does seem a little weird that a game that was so obviously inspired by Saving Private Ryan is now itself becoming a movie. It would just like someone making a movie based on Dead Rising, which is unofficially based on Dawn of the Dead… oh wait, they are actually making a Dead Rising movie. Nevermind. What are your thoughts on a Call of Duty film? Anyone want to place bets on how long it takes for Brett Ratner to get involved?

Posted by maik katko on September 7th, 2009mixing movies with games NEVER works, since a lot of movies get turned into games, they ALWAYS fail. Id just assume that turning a game into a movie would fail hardcoree.
Posted by lucass on September 22nd, 2009Why not wait until the Gears of War movie see how it goes, then if all goes well attempt a Cod4 movie, forget WW2 movies and games they are boring now. After a while even try Halo3 but Halo is not something to take lightly in a movie. You can’t mess up or you will have Millions on your back about it. What ever they want to use Millions of their money to make another WW2 movie go for it, Can’t see how it will work with the main char. doing all the work.
