I think Sacha Baron Cohen could be an inspired choice to play Khan (provided he could bulk up a little for the roll). He could probably create a character that is reminisant of Ricardo Montalban but at the same time take it to an edgy, insane direction that a gentectic super mutant with delusions of grandeur would deserve.

Not a remake of WOK, but maybe another look at the TOS episode “Space Seed”, where we first meet Khan. With this new timeline Universe, the events of that episode can play differently and add a new twist to the story that gave us WOK. We don’t need to take away from WOK, it stands alone and does not need to be redone, but seeing how the Abramsverse is taking a fresh look at the original cast and story, maybe the destruction of Vulcan and the 40 something Klingon vessels in this version could have a trickle down effect that rearranges Khans arrival. Negating that, we could have the Borg make an appearance as a result of the universal shake up.

no, no, and no. if you watch the wrath of kahn you will see that the new movie has too much in common with it anyway. revegeful psychopath, ship carrying doomday weapon (red matter)(genesis device) even the dang centauri slugs(ceti eels). lets see some mirror on mirror shall we? why not pit the (U)SS Enterprise versus the (I)SS Enterprise??? now that would be “fasinating”. live long and prosper.

I gave it a lot of thought and came up with Richard Alpert (Nestor Carbonell) from Lost as the perfect Khan. Besides being a spitting image of Ricardo as well as charisma and Personality, I think he is not as well known and wouldn’t force the rest of the cast to take a bench. Javier is good, but then Jack Nicholson was good in Batman, so good that Batman was barely remembered.

It would work if it was a re-telling of the “Space Seed” episode, along with more of Khan’s back story including some scenes from his origin. Khan could be cast as a some kind of fanatical Middle-Eastern despot who may be disturbingly similar to real-life characters. It could explain how he somehow conquers a great deal of the world probably through the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction. So there could be a topical aspect to the movie as well. It could be very good if done right.

there’s something innately flawed about this film and others like it.

On the one hand we’re supposed to forget everything before it and embrace this bold new direction.

But also, get ready to revisit all you favorite characters and storylines.

It’s a completely new franchise full of crazy new ideas. Now here’s our remake of Wrath of Khan.

I dont think it would be a Wrath of Khan remmake as much as a redo of the episode that Khan was in. That might be kind of cool.

Now that is ballsy. JJ’s Star Trek is already that good that it warrants a sequel and his movie has yet to leave the gate? And for that matter the sequel is a possible remake of Kahn?? or at least an introduction of Kahn? a remake of the one movie almost all fans agree is the best of the Trek movies? Now that takes balls.

I haven’t even seen this movie yet but they really think this Trek is going to crack 200-250 million dollar with a combo domestic and international B.O.? Now that is Ballsy.
