Brad Anderson to Direct Vanishing on 7th Street Starring John Leguizamo and Thandie Newton

I’ve been a big fan of Brad Anderson’s films to date; from Session 9 to The Machinist to Transsiberian, he’s proven that he can direct some tense and spooky material. I think we can also assume that he’s a fan of sci-fi and mysteries, as he has recently been directing episodes of the J.J. Abrams series Fringe, and his next upcoming project seems to fall in line with that somewhat.
He is currently in development on an apocalyptic thriller called Vanishing on 7th Street (previously titled The Darkness), about a group of survivors following a mysterious blackout that causes the majority of the population to disappear. They seek refuge in a small tavern, only to find that the darkness is slowly coming after them one by one.
John Leguizamo and Thandie Newton have both been cast in the film, which sounds pretty intriguing to me. Of course, if anyone other than Brad Anderson was directing it, I might have serious questions about how they could pull it off without it seeming cheesy, but I’m pretty sure he’ll figure out a way to do it. This is only one of a few projects that Anderson is currently working on; others include a serial killer movie called All Lost Souls, a potential remake of The 7th Victim, and an adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s Concrete Island that may star Christian Bale! Do any of these movies interest you?

I like the sound of this Vanishing movie. The concept sounds very twilight zoneish. Been meaning to rent session 9 for awhile as I have heard that movie had a big influence on the Silent Hill games…
Posted by Matt on April 27th, 2009I’m very excited about all three films, Anderson has in the works. JG Ballard adaptations are not for the weary, but Session 9 and The Machinist were brilliant and I believe, as the blog author said, Brad Anderson is the man for the job.
It gives me something to look forward to in film, amongst all the bland works that are coming out.
