David Slade in Talks to Direct Twilight: Eclipse, Plus First Wolf Pack Pic from New Moon (UPDATED)

Twilight mania continues to run wild right now, with the vampire romance saga showing absolutely no sign of letting up. Now that the first movie is out on DVD, even more people are getting into the story of Edward and Bella, and the anticipation for the sequel New Moon is building. What may be the first official photo from the Chris Weitz-directed film has debuted via USA Today, and it lends further credibility to the argument that Twilight is just softcore porn for teenage girls. After the jump, check out one super hot image of the four actors who play “The Wolf Pack” in the film.
In other Twilight news, the race to find a director for the third Twilight film, Eclipse, is heating up. After both Drew Barrymore and Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage) threw their names into the ring, now Nikki Finke is reporting that David Slade is also in talks for the gig. Slade is perhaps the most interesting possibility yet, having previously directed the comic book vampire film 30 Days of Night and the female revenge flick Hard Candy. It seems strange that after the first movie was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, they seem to be more interested in getting men to direct the sequels. Are they determined to get fanboys interested in this franchise? Is such a thing even possible? Who would you like to see direct the next Twilight film?
Update: David Slade has been confirmed as the director for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

“Twilight is just softcore porn for teenage girls”
Posted by swarez on April 22nd, 2009And gays apparently with this picture.
“Just” softcore porn for teenage girls? Why so dismissive? Even teenage girls need something to jill off to.
Posted by Wintle on April 22nd, 2009I get it that girls like these books and movies. Or well, somehow get it. But I just can’t understand what the appeal is for men, unless your gay. I’ve heard now from 2 or 3 guys, that Twilight is “totally badass” and my eyes was about to pop out of my head, am I missing something here?!?!?
Posted by Kasper F. Nielsen on April 22nd, 2009I’m a 31 year old STRAIGHT guy. I had dismissed Twilight as being, as described, softcore porn for teen girls… It’s not even for teens, it’s for tweens… Anyway, truthfully, it basically is just that… Well, I watched the movie the other night… It wasn’t as bad as I expected. Nothing spectacular or groundbreaking, but not horrible… I don’t know how the story unfolds, but if they want guys to get into this franchise, the next 2 films better have more violence in them…
Posted by fallingbeside on April 22nd, 2009Oops, forgot to say that I do think David Slade’s involvement would make me more interested in watching the next films.
Posted by fallingbeside on April 22nd, 2009David Slade would be a great pick. I loved his 30 days of night.

Posted by entertainmenttodayandbeyond on April 22nd, 2009I love the whole thing! books & movie! great story. if u have nothing nice to say, dont say anything at all!
Posted by April Showerz on April 22nd, 2009Oh, April Showerz, don’t you know that it’s okay not to run with the crowd? Why do you care if people diss the thing you like? You’re free to like bad literature and film, and other people are free to hate good literature and film. There’s no need to be preschoolish about it.
Posted by linds on April 22nd, 2009I’ve read all the books and love them and the movies i could see them maybe putting more of the action that bella doesn’t really speak much about in the books but they have to understand if they put too much in it and fall away from what the books are they may gain boys to watch but they will lose alot of the females that are making it so big. So yes I belive really with new moon they are going to have to add in some stuff to keep people guy and some girls action intrest in it since not much action in the new moon book but don’t lose the story (keep with the book). But i believe that Eclipse is about set with action will all the newborns fighting and victoria fighting in the near end of the story. I don’t know what they can do with the last one cause its don’t have any fight just kinda drama to the story so really can’t help any there about what to do to get some action other then bella’s training and maybe showing the guest hunting some or something. This books is not much based on action there is some but the Book is about unnatural Love and fighting all the odds. We have millions of people addicted to Twilight don’t mess up the story just to make others happy cause it will always make some other made of the change.
Posted by Nakilla on April 22nd, 2009Why are all these guys griping so much about the twilight saga? If girls, women, guys, whoever want to read and watch these then why does it matter? Everyone has their own favorite book and movie. Let these people have theirs. It seems to me these guys are jealous because the women in their lives are so consumed with twilight that they are no longer the center of the universe.Boohoo and get over yourselves.Would you rather your significant other have so much free time they spend it nagging at you all the time? That is if u even have one!Just like every phase this will pass.
Posted by shawna on April 22nd, 2009A hand full of fans have come together to put this group out in the open to help support Actress JaNae Armogan in getting a role in Stephenie Meyer novel’s “Eclipse and Breaking Dawn”, in recent readings JaNae has said “trying to get in contact with Ms Meyer personally is almost next to impossible but I’m the type of person that believes there’s always another way.” That’s where we the fans come in. We have put together this petition and are passing it around in hopes that other people as well as her fans can help get the attention as well as the exposure she needs to get this part. The character’s name is “Leah Clearwaters” for people that haven’t read the book she is the female Shape Shifter and Seth’s older protective sister who is introduce in the third novel “Eclipse”. “I admire her strength,” JaNae says; “to be able to watch the man she loves (Sam) love someone else and still manages to have enough binding force to face him and protect her brother and family. I marvel over how she intimidates her pack but they still love and respect her no matter what. Even though her and Jacob don’t get along most of the time they still have a connection and can put there pettiness aside and be there for each other, she’s underestimated because she’s petite and a female, that I can really relate too.” By reading this it gave me the impression that she became this character, I have seen some of her work and watch her in interviews, she strikes me as a very passionate person on and off screen. I’m reading the novel “Breaking Dawn” now and her face is the only face I see for Leah. So help me introduce this young lady to the world, I know I speak for all her fans we I say we would love to see her play this character. All you have to do is join this group and send this group around and have your friends and your friend’s friends join, the more we get the better, these people in the business know that the fans hold the key, they do what the fans request because it is the fans that are spending the dollar so please help me help JaNae Armogan have the opportunity to embrace this saga and become Leah.
