The Asylum’s Low Budget Sci-Fi Knockoff The Terminators Trailer

Well, you knew it was coming, right? Those wacky folks over at The Asylum, the indie film studio best known for their low budget direct-to-DVD productions, have come up with a Terminator rip off to be released just a few weeks before McG’s Terminator Salvation hits theatres. Wanna take a guess at what it’s called? That’s right… The Terminators! Awesome.

I’m still not exactly sure how they manage to get away with some of this stuff, but it’s pretty amusing nonetheless. I guess there’s really no way anyone would be dumb enough to think this is related to the official Terminator franchise, even though they kinda stole the logo too. Major studios must realize that the best policy is to ignore it rather than give The Asylum free publicity. At any rate, I doubt I’d be able to actually sit through one of these movies, but hey, I’ll totally watch a 50 second trailer! The Terminators hits stores on April 28th. Be sure to keep an eye out for Transmorphers 2: Fall of Man coming in June!

  1. The CGI looks like something out of a computer game from the start of the new millennium.

  2. I’ve read about “The Asylum” and their releases and I think that if they were to release something original and well-written it could actually get some good reviews even if it is low budget. Choosing instead to release similarly titled films close to another big hollywood production may create confusion and cause some people to rent the wrong movie but it’s stupid. Create something original please, you may be surprised at how it fares at the box office or video store.

  3. People have mistaken their stuff for the block busters, but that’s only because they are idiots most of the time.
The thing is, the CGI in their films is actually pretty good considering the budget. Sure they only make a handful of shots and reuse them over and over again but they do look good. Their sound design on the other hand is awful.

  4. how is it that companies like this can get cash to make something almost immorally stupid. obviously its a little dickish to just up and name a movie slightly different then the real thing. how the fuck do they get the cash for this shit? but i cant get a loan to put tires on my fucking car?

  5. I’ve never seen any of the Asylum’s movies, but it looks kinda fun. Do we get T&A as a bonus though? As cheap knock-offs of the originals, these movies need to be over the top, gory and have some sweet T&A, right? :)

  6. I’ve always wanted to rent some of these stupid movies just to see how bad they are. I can’t help but laugh every time I see them in the video-store. I wonder how many parents (or other tragically un-hip people) rent these movies by accident for their kids (or themselves) thinking they are the “real-thing.”

What’s even stranger is that my local video store will always have at least 5 copies of these stupid knock-off movies… I guess they figure (like the studio that made the films) that they can get a couple of unsuspecting people to cough up cash by accident???

  7. Transmorphers is available on the Instant Play list on Netflix which fills me with such glee.

Also, there are, apparently, cheap Brazilian (?) knock-offs to Pixar’s movies. My personal favorites being Ratatoing and The Little Cars in the Great Race. Check them out on Amazon to get the full affect of their shitty CGI.

  8. Asylum gets the cash because these sell like hot cakes, plus they sell them to tons of TV stations, most notably Sci-Fi Channel.
Amazingly there are people out there that think that when movies are released in theater they are automatically released on DVD, I’ve heard many people inquire about titles just released in theaters in DVD stores.

  9. The only one I’ve seen so far is Snakes On A Train, and I enjoyed it enough that I’d certainly be game for more.
