New To Theatres This Weekend: State of Play, Crank: High Voltage, 17 Again

This week’s new releases have their work cut out for them if they hope to overtake Hannah Montana: The Movie, but it’s possible that the Matthew Perry/Zac Efron comedy 17 Again might do it, or perhaps the over the top action of Crank: High Voltage starring Jason Statham. Having slightly less mainstream appeal is the Russell Crowe thriller State of Play, based on the BBC mini-series. Opening in select theatres we also have the Alex Rivera sci-fi flick Sleep Dealer and the Michael Caine dramedy Is Anybody There? starring the kid from Son of Rambow, among others. Will you be seeing any movies this weekend?

  1. Sugar is finally opening in Toronto, I’ve been super psyched for that one since TIFF. :D

  2. State of Play looks decent too, might catch a cheap Tuesday matinee.

And one of my BFFs has a little crush/obsession with Zefron, so I expect she’ll be dragging me to that sometime in the near future.

  3. I wish Crank was in theaters here in Denmark, I’d love to watch that one, the first was awesome.

  4. Yeah, I was thinking I’d see Sugar listed here too, it is opening in Chicago, very limited. It will be interesting to hear Jay’s thoughts due to the filmmakers directing it like a doc. I liked Half Nelson.
