This Week on DVD: The Spirit, The Reader, House of Saddam

If you thought the last few weeks were slow for new DVD releases, well, think again. There are only two major releases this week, one of which is the Frank Miller bomb The Spirit, and the other being the Oscar-nominated film The Reader (you know, the one that no one saw because they thought it looked boring). To make matters worse, the Blu-ray release of The Reader won’t be out for another two weeks. Other discs hitting stores today include the low budget horror film Splinter, the HBO mini-series House of Saddam, and a series of 8 “lost” cult classics from Lionsgate. Yikes. Are there any other noteworthy releases that we missed this week?

I will definitely try to find Repossessed: The Lost Collection.
Posted by dirrrtyfrank on April 14th, 2009Yay! Illiterate Nazi pedophiles! How endearing! Someone give this film an Oscar, quick… oh, wait, what?
Posted by Shut-Up Ed on April 14th, 20098 Mile might be worth watching again (I’m from the Detroit area).
To Greg – did you like The Spirit (did you see it?). The preview is laughable, but I’m wondering if it’s worth a netflix for some eye candy?
ps. go Red Wings.
Posted by joe on April 14th, 2009The Reader made over $80 million worldwide! Which is more than Observe and Report will make.
Posted by TheAllKnowingGod on April 14th, 2009That is true, although I was kinda being sarcastic. At the Oscars Hugh Jackman joked about no one having seen it, but that was partially because the movie didn’t get a wide release until after the Oscars.
Posted by Sean on April 14th, 2009House of Saddam was very good if you didn’t catch it. Cast was amazing and it had some real good stuff on the sons.
