New To Theatres This Weekend: Observe and Report, Dragonball Evolution, Hannah Montana: The Movie

As we head into this Easter weekend, it remains to be seen whether or not anything can stop Fast and Furious from taking another victory lap at the box office. If anyone has a shot, it’s probably Hannah Montana and her first non-concert feature film, but don’t count out Jody Hill’s Observe and Report starring Seth Rogen which has been getting decent reviews. On the other hand, Dragonball has a lot of fans, but something tells me that the Dragonball Evolution movie has been doomed from day one. In select theatres, keep your eyes peeled for Anvil! The Story of Anvil, Lymelife, and the Michael Chabon adaptation The Mysteries of Pittsburgh. Will you be heading out to the cinema this weekend?

- Dragonball Evolution
- Anvil! The Story of Anvil (limited)

I really don’t like that girl who’s in Chuck and Observe & Report. At least, her characters are so dumb and annoying. Catching up on blurays this weekend (Burn After Reading for the first time)

Posted by joe on April 10th, 2009Anna Faris doesnt get in a lot of good movies, but when used properly she’s great.
and she’s great in this. O&R is Jody Hill’s darkest movie yet. I thought it started out just okay, and was even wishing he continued using Danny McBride, but I think thats because of Seth Rogen overkill and being so used to him being so amicable and friendly in other movies, it was hard to take seriously at first, even knowing what to expect.
But as it goes along its very easy to buy into that character and the more psychotic and unstable he becomes, the more enjoyable the movie is.
So yeah, dark, weird, and even though its only 55% on rottentomatoes, that more of a sign of how dark and weird it is than about how funny or good it is. It’s very funny, very good. Thumbs up.
Posted by Goon on April 10th, 2009Just got back from seeing this – very funny! Definitely want to see in the theater with a group because with the in your face gross out comedy the audience reactions are great.
