Kenny Starfighter: Kenny Begins Trailer

Hey who said that the U.S. was the only country that could parody Star Wars? It seems that Sweden has come up with their own answer to Spaceballs, and it’s only 20 years too late! Carl Ã…strand and Mats Lindberg created the TV series Kenny Starfighter back in the late ’90s, about a dim-witted hero who drives a space-bus and fights the evil Dr. Deo. Now the character comes to the big screen with one of the most expensive Swedish productions ever: Kenny Begins!

Okay, okay, I know it’s more than just a straight up Star Wars parody, and it does actually look like fun. The trailer doesn’t have English subtitles unfortunately, but you can certainly get a sense of the look and feel of the film. It hits theatres this week in Sweden, but I have no idea if this will ever find its way to North America. It seems like the kind of thing that would play very well at genre festivals like Toronto After Dark. We’ll have to let our Swedish readers fill us in and let us know if it’s worth checking out. Take a look at the trailer for Kenny Begins, embedded below.

  1. Kenny Starfighter was a children tv-show when it was on tv, and I think it will still aim towards children. But almost every comedian from sweden can almost be seen in the trailer.

  2. I grew up watching the tv-series, a show that was incredibly funny and well-made. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but it’s been getting great reviews all over the news (and friends who’ve seen it)

It’s a Star Wars parody, but it still has its own background story and all. I have to say it’s funny that Pernilla August plays a part in the movie, though… seeing as she was Anakin Skywalker’s mother (Shmi Skywalker) in Star Wars: Episode 1

  3. I liked Kenny Begins. It’s target audience is ofcourse 7 to 12 year olds but I think adults can enjoy it. The movie is somewhat rediculous but I think also that it is the creators intent, because the main charachter Kenny is ridiculous himself. Pretty ok special FX too, even though you can’t compare it with hollywoodfilms. Totally recommend it.

  4. Even though the tv series were aimed at children/young teens the movie finds its way to a broader audience from 10 to 30 (im 25 and didnt think the movie was to childish even if it is at some points. but hey, spaceballs childish too). Even if the storyline is some what weak the heart of the movie brings it up with the witty humor and good laughs. You’ll end up quoting it months after watching it.
