We’re Back Online

Pretty hectic day folks. For a while there, it looked like someone unplugged the internet. Then we realized it was just Film Junk that wasn’t working, and we were down for the majority of the day. The good news is, the site is finally back online once again, and everything looks to be working properly. The bad news is, I still don’t know what happened.
The technical details for those who are interested: our database queries started hanging for no apparent reason. After stripping out as many of our plug-ins as possible and upgrading to the latest version of Wordpress, we seem to be back in business. Let’s cross our fingers and hope it doesn’t happen again. We are going to be relocating to another web host as soon as possible, and at the same time, I am considering moving to a registration-only comment system, because I have a feeling spam could be part of the issue. I’ll let you know what we decide to do. For now, just holler if you have any trouble accessing the site or leaving comments. Thanks.

You’re a good man Sean. Thanks for saving the site for all of us.
Posted by Ian on March 25th, 2009Those spamers are annoying, I think you should move to the registered comment system.
Posted by Drew on March 25th, 2009Good work, Sean. For what it’s worth, I accessed the site from my computer twice and my iPhone once yesterday, and had no problems at all…

Let’s be honest, the internet *is* FilmJunk. Or FilmJunk *is* the internet.
Posted by Andrew James on March 25th, 2009Either way, glad you’re back and the world can start moving again.
I’m cool with Reg-only comment system on here. You might scare off commenters unless they can do it anonymously though. I usually find it annoying registering to a site even though I’ve registered to a million places. But I love this site =)
Posted by Primal on March 25th, 2009good thing Reed takes photos of all the FilmJunk screens as a back-up
Posted by rus in chicago on March 25th, 2009I really don’t think he considers Film Junk archive-worthy. Maybe just the Treknobabble articles.
On that topic, I am going to try and talk Reed into putting his internet archive videos on YouTube. You know, just to keep them backed up.
Posted by Sean on March 25th, 2009I noticed that some of my video backups of the Internet have started getting fungus growth. I didn’t realize that videotape had organic matter to allow fungus growth.
Oh, wait, maybe it’s not fungus. It’s white hairy stuff inside the cassette housing. I don’t think it’s spider webs. Maybe bacterial? Viral? The Internet transmitted a virus to my videotape?
