Sorority Row Scares Up A Trailer

There are so many horror remakes coming down the pike that I’m having trouble keeping track of them all. So I was surprised to discover that the remake for the 1983 slasher opus The House on Sorority Row already has a trailer available. In the movie, five sorority sisters engage in a prank that goes horribly wrong, forcing them to bury the evidence in order to save their reputations. After graduation, that past mistake comes back to haunt them in the form of a hooded killer with a grudge and a cross wrench.

With a slasher movie, as in most things, execution is everything. The recent resurgence in slasher films has brought us a number of remakes, like Halloween, Friday The 13th and My Bloody Valentine, which contain so many tweaks to the concept that they barely resemble the sub-genre they’re meant to represent. While it’s impossible to gauge such important elements as suspense and characterization from the trailer, I continue to hold out hope that someday a modern mainstream slasher movie can deliver the goods and I think when it does it will come from somewhere unexpected, like Sorority Row. Is anyone else excited by this new slasher renaissance?

  1. Saw a trailer for this during Knowing. I started to laugh when I could see the tire iron coming from a mile away. I’m sure that makes me sick but this movie looks like a joke.

  2. I too saw it in front of “Knowing.” This movie looks like complete garbage. I guess if you’re into the movies from the 80’s where they did this 1000 times, and you want more of that, then go nuts. Otherwise I think this looks like shit.

“But EVERYONE’s wearing dark hoods tonight.:

  3. I really don’t think this looks as horrible as everyone says….but it’s still shitty.I am definately
excited about the slasher coming back but of course a lot of people frown upon slasher films because apparently you can’t be a film fan if you like them.

    So Far
My Bloody Valentine 3D – Decent, maybe would’ve liked it more had the fucker next to me closed his cell phone. – Original is one of the better slasher films.

Halloween 2007 – Has slasher elements but Rob is more interested in the manson like realism of the killing spree and the psychology (whether is actually comes through). – I actually enjoyed RZ’s Halloween because it was a RE-IMAGINING.

Friday The 13th- I enjoy this film like enjoy the other fridays but I think the problem lies in that it wasn’t a remake or reboot. It was just a sequel.
I feel Halloween (even though it doesnt compare to the 1978 carpenter film) was a re-imagining. – Note..This film gets way too crazy with the shaky cam at the finale of the film and feels very rushed/cut up/they used a diffrent ending then what was originally scripted.

  4. Sorority row (2009) was the trailer I just have seen and the movie was out standing for sure as the trailer and the good review of this movie. This movie was making a fine attraction on fans I think. This movie does have a good review over hire and if you are a fan of this movie and seeking details garb it now from where I have read before

  5. Just finished watching it. Definitely my favourite of the recent spate of slasher remakes, though that’s not saying much. Pretty funny with at least one completely sweet kill. Also, Chugs is one of my favourite characters of the past decade.
