Natasha Richardson Suffers Serious Head Injury in Ski Accident

All of the Hollywood gossip sites are scrambling for details today surrounding an unfortunate accident that has apparently befallen actress Natasha Richardson, wife of Liam Neeson. The information is still a bit foggy, but it seems that she fell while taking beginner ski lessons somewhere in Quebec, Canada and hit her head. It appeared to be a relatively minor injury, but then an hour later she wasn’t feeling well and was rushed to the hospital. It is now being reported that the injury is much more serious, and that she may have brain swelling. She is being transported back to the U.S. for treatment.
Richardson is known for her recent roles in such movies as Maid in Manhattan, The Parent Trap and Evening. Liam Neeson reportedly flew to Montreal to be at her side as soon as he found out; he was working on the set of the Atom Egoyan film Chloe in Toronto. A statement with more information is expected to be made within the next 24 hours, but let’s hope that the situation isn’t as grave as everyone is making it out to be. I may never go skiing again.

You can still go skiing Sean, just make sure you wear a helmet.
Posted by Neil M on March 17th, 2009For some reason, there have been several snow activity deaths making the news in Canada this year. These include people skiing and snow boarding into trees. Neil M, some of these people were even wearing helmets. So a helmet doesn’t make you invincible.
When I was a kid, I remember tobogganing into a tree. The pom pom from my toque was embedded in the tree!
Posted by Reed Farrington on March 18th, 2009Sounds very much like this was waiting to happen, She didn`t have a serous bump – just a fall but must have burst a blood vessel in her head which would have happend even with helmet on… The jolt alone could have done it… very sad… she is lovely
Posted by Joan on March 18th, 2009Reed, I would never claim that a helmet makes you invincible. It does, however, greatly decrease the risk of a serious head injury. Yeah it’s too bad when you read about accidents like this, but it shouldn’t make you nervous every time you feel like getting out and skiing. Wear a helmet, be cautious, don’t ski next to the tree line and you’ll be fine.
