The Goon And Frankie Go To Hollywood

The Goon is one of those comic books for which I always think I don’t have very many copies until I gather them all together and realize I actually own a huge pile. This lackadaisical attitude toward the series is probably the reason I had absolutely no idea they were planning an animated Goon movie, or that they’ve already begun production. Ain’t It Cool News is the place to go if you want to check out a few Goon-sized character models.
These images prove that we are living in wondrous times. While The Goon himself looks spot-on, his compadre Frankie seems a little off, though I can’t put my finger on why. Not that it matters considering the voice acting and the character animation are at least as important in bringing these bruisers to life. Computer-generated commercial animation is only now getting good enough that I can see them doing The Goon justice. Here’s hoping they’re up to the challenge.

I suppose its required that I comment on this.

Posted by Wintle on March 16th, 2009frankie looks perfect…whats the problem?
Posted by Bob The Slob on March 16th, 2009The problem is Goon looks photo-realistic (especially his shirt, BEAUTIFUL) but Frankie looks, well, like a cartoon. There is no texture in Frankie’s face… and he has no pupils…
Am I right?
Yes or No.
Posted by Shut-Up Ed on March 16th, 2009I thought this was going to be a series with Corey and Frank! Bummer…
Posted by Henrik on March 16th, 2009Like I said, I’m not entirely why I feel that way, but I think it may just have to do with it being a straight-on view of Frankie. Animated characters always look a little weird at that angle. I have no doubt it’ll work out just fine.
Posted by Wintle on March 16th, 2009I’m always glad to see adult-oriented animation coming from somewhere other than Japan (because I’m sick of anime)! I need to finally follow my friend’s suggestions and check out the 1st GN.
