New To Theatres This Weekend: Watchmen, Explicit Ills, The Horsemen

Although there are a handful of movies in limited release this weekend, such as the Dennis Quaid/Ziyi Zhang thriller The Horsemen, and the festival hit Explicit Ills, the only movie that 99% of us want to see right now is Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. Of course, this begs the question: who will watch the Watchmen? Will this be a bigger breakthrough hit than 300 was, or will it be confined solely to the comic book literati? I probably won’t see it for another day or two, so feel free to start the discussion here.

I’ll probably catch the sunday matinee, I’m not a big opening night guy. Everytime a commercial for this has come on though I’ve had to stop what I was doing and watch. It looks amazing and I’m looking forward to it more then anything else right now.
Posted by Alex R. Cronk-Young on March 6th, 2009I haven’t read the graphic novel, but the trailer looked good so I was planning to go see it… until I heard how mixed the reviews are. The visuals (judging by the trailer) look right up my alley, but the story according to some of the reviews fails to translate. I guess the safest way to go is pick up the graphic novel first.
Sean, when can we expect your spoiler-free review? And are Greg & Jay seeing the movie in time for the next podcast?
Posted by Bas on March 6th, 2009I’ll try and have a review up by Sunday at the latest.
Posted by Sean on March 6th, 2009Going to see Watchmen tonight, got the graphic novel yesterday and finished the 1st 6 chapters so far. Hopefully I’ll get to finish it before I see the film.
Posted by Primal on March 6th, 2009Watchmen never looked interesting to me. I don’t understand why people are hyped about this one. Is the story that good? Or just the usual comic/internet crowd getting excited about every movie? 300 was a comedy with good action scenes for me. Anyways, should be an interesting review on the podcast.
