J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Trailer #2

A new trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek will be playing in theatres with Watchmen this weekend, but if you want to see it right now, you most certainly can! I think it does a great job of showcasing some action while setting up Kirk’s story arc, and it also has some impressive special effects on top of that. I want to see this thing right now damnit! Of course, I know the only thing you really want to hear is Reed Farrington’s opinion on the trailer. So here it is: “Chaotic”.

Okay that was just his one word review, but here is his other comment: “I was pumped by the trailer, but I still maintain that the person editing the trailers doesn’t do an ‘artful’ job of it. Or maybe the problem is the footage he has to work with. The bridge does look like a mess design wise. For one thing, the costumes clash with it.”

There you go folks, the mind of a Trekkie. What did you think of the new trailer? Star Trek hits theatres on May 8th.

  1. This looks so much better then anything Star Trek I’ve ever seen. I’ve never been a fan but I’m ok with Abram’s coming in a snazzing it up. It makes one more summer blockbuster that I’m excited to see.

  2. I liked the first trailer better than this one. I’ll go see Star Trek for two reasons: I used to be something of a trekkie (lost interest after Voyager & DS9) and I really, really liked Mision: Impossible III.

  3. Don’t think it’ll hold up to “Wrath of Kahn” in terms of plot, suspense, but the FX look much better…..then again they should; they’ve had 26 years to improve.

    I’ll definitely go see it.

  4. I’ll go see it and hope for the best. Not a fan of JJ and so far the overall design of the ship and bridge seem more science fantasy than science fiction which is bumnming. But the trailer looks thrilling. Hoping for the best, but still have doubts.

  5. Looks great, but there’s only one man’s opinion that counts when it comes to Star Trek. What does Reed think ?
    Paul.

  6. Reed doesn’t have much to say, but I included some of his comments in my post. Take another look.

  7. This looks more like Armageddon than Star Trek.

  8. The Harold and Kumar guy definitely stood out. I don’t think that’ll work too well.

  9. I’m pissed as hell! I went to see Watchmen hoping to see the new Star Trek trailer in all its glory but there was no Star Trek trailer attached. Reed, if you are planning to see watchmen for the trailer don’t waste your money.

  10. How come Jar Jar Binks isn’t in the trailer?

  11. Greg, Jar Jar Binks asked for too much money. Seriously, why does The Clone Wars still feature Jar Jar Binks? Is Lucas ignoring the opinions of all the fanboys? Or does Jar Jar Binks really have a kiddie fan following so that 30 years from now, all the adult Star Wars fans will be waxing nostalgic for Jar Jar Binks?

John Locke, thx for the heads up. What’s going on? Are we living in some alternate timeline where the Star Trek trailer doesn’t get shown at theatres? Maybe that’s why no Star Trek was shown at the end of the Academy Awards movie previews. I wouldn’t be surprised if Star Trek doesn’t get shown anywhere around here on May 8.

  12. The trailer showed before my viewing of Watchmen. It looks… chaotic. I’ll go see it though, and just hope that the chaos results from trying to cram too much action into a two minute commercial.

  13. Still looking good!

  14. Loved Gregs comment.

I feel like I’ve seen everything I wanted to see at this point unfortunately, and when I go see the movie only the stupid and lame stuff will be fresh to me. Uhura love story, Scotty bad comedy etc. I guess Spock hasn’t been doing much, but does anybody else who’s been following the marketing, feel like the Kirk storyline has already played out without having seen the movie?

  15. “Or does Jar Jar Binks really have a kiddie fan following so that 30 years from now, all the adult Star Wars fans will be waxing nostalgic for Jar Jar Binks?”

I never had the horrible thought! Lets hope no parents let them see this w/o seeing the OT.

As for the trailer…seeing it in theatres made it obvious that JJ Abrams shot way too many close ups to some point where the framing felt horrifically claustrophobic. I couldn’t make out what was going on in the space scenes (cause of the claustrophobic framing) thus I also felt it was “chaotic.”
