Judd Apatow Officially Producing Ghostbusters 3?

Ever since it was announced last September that a third Ghostbusters film was in development and that The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky had been hired to write the script, things kind of went quiet for a while. Then, just last week, Dan Aykroyd revealed that they were hoping to start shooting in the fall, and confirmed that Bill Murray and the rest of the original cast would be involved even though they were going with a “next generation” storyline.
Now comes another interesting development, courtesy of Cinema Blend. Apparently in the latest issue of Production Weekly, the project is listed under the banner of Apatow Productions! While Judd Apatow’s involvement had been suspected all along (he is producing the Harold Ramis comedy Year One, which Eisenberg and Stupnitsky also co-wrote), this would seem to confirm it. It also re-opens the door on those Seth Rogen casting rumours.
While I can certainly understand a lot of people feeling that Apatow and his partners are suffering from overexposure as of late, I am pretty excited to see a true passing of the comedy torch here. Apatow clearly idolizes Murray and Ramis (as seen in various episodes of Freaks and Geeks), and for him I can only imagine this must be a dream come true. Now comes the all important question: which Apatow regulars should play the new Ghostbusters?

Oh god no. I don’t really like Apatow. I mean, some of the movies he has been involved in like Anchorman and Step Brothers are insanely awesome, but that’s more because of Will Ferrel and Adam McKay, where as the ones where Apatow actually is more involved I don’t like. Such as Knocked Up, I hated that movie.

Posted by paulie on March 2nd, 2009Well since older stars have been making big bucks at the box office lately I don’t see why they couldn’t just stick with the original cast.

KNOCKED UP WAS BETTER THAN ANCHORMAN AND STEP BROTHERS.
