The Wrestler Wins Best Feature at the 2009 Spirit Awards

The Independent Spirit Awards took place earlier today in Santa Monica, California, celebrating the best films from 2008 that were shot for under $20 million. Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler took home prizes for Best Feature, Best Actor and Best Cinematography.

Yes, that is Rainn Wilson performing live at the ceremony in a parody of The Wrestler, and when Mickey Rourke took the stage for his Best Actor win, he responded very articulately, “That little blonde dude that did that thing, I’m going to beat your ass when I get out of here.”

  1. Mickey Rourke’s speech was the funniest thing I have ever seen. The Oscars should take note of this ceremony. It is so much better and it only took two hours. Steve Coogan was a great host and I liked how the musical interludes made fun of the films they were portraying. This is the best awards show I ever saw.

  2. somebody give that guy an award … FOR THAT SPEECH!!!!!
