New To Theatres This Weekend: Fired Up, Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail

It’s going to be a slow weekend at the multiplex, with only two new major releases to choose from. First up, the high school comedy Fired Up!, starring Nicholas D’Agosto, Eric Christian Olsen and Sarah Roemer. Secondly, Tyler Perry’s latest Madea adventure Madea Goes to Jail (does anyone else get the impression that he’s just copying the Ernest series at this point?). This movie should easily dethrone Friday the 13th, but perhaps there will be a last minute surge from the few Oscar contenders that are still playing in theatres. In select theatres we also have the Bollywood flick Delhi 6, and the fashion designer documentary Eleven Minutes.

  1. God, Every time I see a commercial for Madea Goes to Jail I want to vomit. I’m so tired of hearing about those garbage movies. There only one step up from Meet the Spartans and Disaster Movie.

  2. Oooo and an addition! :) Charles Martin Smith’s “Stone of Destiny” opens across Canada today!

  3. ah. yes. another reminder of why i haven’t been to the theater in weeks …

  4. “does anyone else get the impression that he’s just copying the Ernest series at this point?”

Funny that you should mention this, one of Spoutblog’s writers just did an amusing comparison between the two.

The sad thing is, with films like Paul Blart breaking box office records in January, films that are sure to make people laugh seem to be in great demand, regardless of quality.
