Film Junk Poll: Which Movie Should Win Best Picture on Sunday?

According to the bookies, Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire is a near lock to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards this Sunday. That would have seemed pretty crazy a few months ago, but the momentum has continued to build ever since the Golden Globes. While there are always a few surprises and upsets, and no one is counting out The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, I’m more interested in the general consensus about which nominated film most deserves to win. I know a lot of people weren’t overly thrilled with the 5 choices for Best Motion Picture of the Year, but out of these options, which one would you most like to see win? Cast your vote in the poll below, and also feel free to discuss in the comments some of the other movies you will be rooting for come Sunday.

  1. I saw a sneak preview of Slumdog Millionaire before any of the hype started, and I was pleasantly surprised. Going into it, all I knew was that it was directed by Danny Boyle, and I liked his movies. But, I never once thought that it was the Best Picture of the Year, and still don’t think it should win. I have see all five nominees, and my pick would be Milk. I was so moved by the story, and the acting was superb. Yes, the same could be said for Slumdog, and don’t get me wrong, Slumdog was great, but it’s like the Little Miss Sunshine from two years ago. That movie did not, imo, deserve the nominations it got. Come to think of it, neither did Juno last year. Anyways, will Slumdog win? Yes. Should it win? No. Just my opinion.

  2. I’ve mentioned before that I’m exceedingly indifferent to all these movies, but I’m going to end up rooting for Milk in the end. I just can’t get behind Slumdog Millionaire because it was just not that great a movie. (Sad truth: I even liked The Reader more than Slumdog.)

  3. I hated hated HATED Slumdog, as I’ve stated many times on FilmJunk and RowThree already. I know it’s going to win, but I’m still hoping for a Milk upset. Milk is the only one on the list that even deserves a nomination for Best Picture. Frost/Nixon was decent, but hardly best of the year, and I didn’t care about Button or Reader enough to bother seeing them. My Best Pictures of the Year are Rachel Getting Married, Wendy and Lucy, The Visitor, The Wrestler, and The Dark Knight.

  4. The Wrestler, Man On Wire

  5. The Vistor was the best movie. I saw all the nominees and not one came close to The Visitor. Sean Penn must
be recognized for his outstanding performance, but I
honestly believe Richard Jenkins was the best. It’s a performance that feels so real, that it feels like he was robbed. Slumdog Millionaire was ok, but not in the same league with The Visitor.
