The Descent 2 Trailer

I’ve had my doubts about The Descent 2 ever since it was first announced. The original was one of the best horror movies in recent years, but without Neil Marshall in the director’s chair, this sequel seems destined to be little more than a cheap knockoff. The story, if you can believe it, is that when Sarah Carter escapes from the caves, no one believes her when she tries to explain what happened. She is forced to accompany a rescue team back down into the darkness in order to locate her missing friends. Wow, that just sounds brilliant.
The first full trailer for The Descent 2 has arrived online, and I have to admit, it does look a bit better than I expected it to. Still, one of the strongest elements of the first movie was the idea that these 5 girls were close friends, all stuck in the situation together, and now that seems lost with a team of experts going down fully prepared. First-time director Jon Harris was the editor on The Descent, along with such movies as Snatch, Stardust and Eden Lake. Can he possibly hope to pull off a movie that matches the intensity of the original? Check out the trailer below and see what you think. The Descent 2 hits theatres in the U.K. on May 15th.
Trailer removed by request.

When I told my boyfriend about the Descent 2 we worked out the sequel in our heads a thousand times but it never seemed right. I agree that this is one of the best horror films in a while, and I agree with the positive reviews that the guys at EverHype gave it (www.everhype.com/?utm_source=bc), but she, and her friends, was left for dead – the movie ended.
Posted by Lance Farnsworth on February 18th, 2009*Spoiler warning* Wasn’t her escape in the first movie all in her head? I guess she could have managed to miraculously escape off-camera after the creatures came after her again, but that’s pushing it.
Posted by Shawn on February 18th, 2009There were two different endings. I guess they’re going with the U.S. ending, which ended with her actually escaping.
Posted by Sean on February 18th, 2009Two problems: if they’re going with the actual ending, Sarah did not get out of that cave. Also, in that trailer, the old guy seemed like he saw Juno alive, which doesn’t make much sense seeing as she got a pick-axe through her neck? Like, straight through the windpipe? I don’t know. I won’t be seeing this.
Posted by Alex on February 18th, 2009Who requested the trailer be removed?
Posted by Jon Rocks on February 18th, 2009I had imagined tha this film would be a direct to DVD. Will it get a theatrical release in the US for sure?
Posted by Jon Rocks on February 18th, 2009Yeah Jon, considering how bad the plot sounds, I have no idea why they’d want good buzz for the trailer removed. They may not be so lucky to get good buzz later.
Posted by Goon on February 18th, 2009I will never understand why traliers get removed by request. It only promotes there product for FREE!
I just don’t get it.

Posted by entertainmenttodayandbeyond on February 18th, 2009I don’t want to sound condescending, but it seems to me these days everyone thinks they are a film critic. Every single magazine, newspaper or website I go to has a ‘critic’ offering their (informed?) opinion on said movie.
I’m not saying the movie is going to be good because I have not saw it yet, but how can the idea of the character being forced back down the cave with a team of rescuers be bad? Gone are the central characters which made the first movie so good and in their place a new cast of people? Erm……..James Camerons ‘Aliens’? One of the most successful films of all time.
Will ‘The Decent 2′ be good? Who knows? Is it a good idea? Of course it is. Bakers should stick to baking cakes and dentists should stick to drilling teeth. There are too many so called film critics these days.
Posted by tom on February 22nd, 2009tom, everyone is just offering an opinion. Every “educated” film critic may think Citizen Kane is the greatest movie ever made, but you don’t have to agree. The idea of a character being forced back with a rescue team is just so cliched.
So, tom, are you one of the “many so called film critics these days”?
Posted by Reed Farrington on February 23rd, 2009I knew I should have explained that better, I knew the first point to be made was going to be ‘people are just offering their opinion’ and I totally agree, but maybe people should just wait and see before giving their opinion. All to often I look for movie trailers of upcoming films or seek the latest news of what is happening with a certain film and it is near impossible to get the news without a multitude of people making comments and criticizing a movie they haven’t even saw yet. Am I entitled to an opinion on the sunset on Mars, not really because I haven’t saw it yet. I would like to be back in the old days sometimes when you went out a saw a new movie for yourself without the words of several hundreds of ‘opinions’ rattling around in my head which can’t be escaped because they are plastered all over the web pages of movie trailers and news links. There is no such thing as cliched in the movie industry..if it makes money, sell it! Cop buddy movies, super hero movies, slashers…they all still rake it in but their kind has been around for over twenty years.
Posted by tom on February 23rd, 2009The best part of “The Descent” was BEFORE the creatures showed up. Frightened, injured women in an unmapped cave, lights fading, tight quarters, not knowing if there is a way out, no one knows where to look for them – all of this was more than enough to keep my stomach in knots. The horror aspect of it derailed an otherwise perfect adventure story.
And yes, Tom, we are all theater critics. When I take a date to a movie, I shell out $30 for tickets, popcorn, hot dogs and parking. That entitles me to complain all I like.
Posted by Mike on February 23rd, 2009…….after the movie! I agree.
Posted by tom on February 24th, 2009If you watch the extras on the first dvd you will see that they wanted to leave the end of the movie open to interpretation. In the beginning of that movie she was taking medication. Were they killed by creatures, was it just a figment of Sarah’s imagination or did she kill everyone? The sequel is to pick up where the first one left off BUT its also going to go back and show you person by person what really happened. As far as the trailer I’m sure we’ve all seen movies where the scenes that were in the trailer weren’t in the movie.
Posted by Karen on February 25th, 2009DUDE they saw Juno alive i mean she was surrounded wit those creatures how she alive but n with that pix-ax i mean it was in her leg…..hth is she alive still…..
Posted by J_je on March 14th, 2009@ Jon Rocks: Juno didnt get the pick in the neck, she got it in the leg at the end of the movie and was left with it as a weapon again as about 12-15 Crawlers surrounded her while Sarah ran.
From the look of the trailer they are going with the US ending of Sarah getting away and being a mad woman. She did start having halucinations at the end (aka seeing a corpse like Juno in her car) so I think that will pose a good point to why no one would believe her about anything. As for whether it’ll be a good sequal to this fantastic movie, I think it will be.
Posted by Min on April 6th, 2009If they have Sarah’s subconcious block out all of the events that occured (as would happen via post-traumatic stress) then having her go back and re-living it with new ppl is perfect. We’ll see it how every thing truely went down and how it connects with what the new team believes went down. I for one am intrigued as to how Juno survived. Most ppl are forgetting, but the movie takes place DIRECTLY after the original, so technically, Juno had a chance of surviving another day or so down there alone.
She did kill most of the Crawlers in the first movie anyway, she’d only get better with time and repeated experience if you think about it.
Not to mention, Juno’s going to definatly have one HUGE grudge against Sarah.
Posted by Min on April 6th, 2009It’ll be fun to see the effects of Sarah’s choice to leave Juno in a f-ed up situation, we all know the girl is going to lose it.
somebody commented on feb 18, 2009 that Juno should not be alive because she got a pick ax thru the wind pipe. That is not what happened that was Beth who Juno accidently put the pick ax thru her windpipe when she turned around and thought Beth was a crawler. Juno is the one that got the pick ax thru her left lower leg by Sarah after she found out about her husband and Juno, and also that Juno left Beth there after hurting her. She told everybody else she saw Beth die. LIAR!
Posted by Susan Halverson on April 8th, 2009yeah, she wasn’t the nicest gal, but Juno rocked! i loved her. good to see her back. crazy Sarah is gonna get what she deserved!
i’m excited about a sequel, so (like Tom says) shut up you pack of bitches until you see it. if it’s rubbish, who cares? just ignore it
but if it’s good…
Posted by teethgrinder on April 19th, 2009Juno was the bad girl. She cheated with Sarah’s husband, didn’t bring the maps to get them through the cave, pick axed Beth through the neck (yeah “accidentally”) and left her alone to die. Juno was basically out for herself. I believe at the end, her ghost was in the vehicle which would mean she died. Juno got what she deserved.
Posted by Tomas on May 3rd, 2009Hi, does anyone know when is the release date for The Descent 2? Thanks
Posted by Radka on May 16th, 2009The first film was quite original, atmospheric, decent acting, and electricall-charged. The sequel, going off the look of the trailer, looks to carry on in the same vein.
Sarah, finally escaping the cave-system, is eventually forced to go back into it by the local Sheriff. Is she going to survive a second descent, and is the existence of the Crawlers going to become public kmowledge.
It looks as though this franchise could go another (third) installment, but I would say that that would have to be it. The story and characters are quite unique, and if there were to be a third installment, I would hope that the director put in charge would follow the same tight story-line as the previous two. It would require no embellishment, or over-creativity. Everything is there for it…just go with the flow.
We left the first film with neither Sarah or Juno escaping the cave system, but both were still alive and kicking. We could hear Juno’s screams, but this does not necessarily mean that she was killed by the Crawlers. Sarah had stuck her cave pick into Juno’s left thigh, and we saw the group of Crawlers arriving to the spot where Sarah and Juno faced each other. I’m looking forward to the 2nd installment, but I doubt it will carry the same ‘originality’ as the first, but should still be exciting.
Posted by Glenn on May 16th, 2009hey i’ve not actually seen the trailer yet but i had to study the Descent for AS film. if you watch at the beginning the life supoort goes dead before she takes them off. death dream?
and those pills she was taking suggest she hallucinated the whole thing and killed her friends herself.
Posted by Alicia on May 21st, 2009oh and also for Tomas’ benefit you shoudl never sneak up on someone when they are freaking out like that. it was an accident, however Juno should have tried to save Beth.
and going back to the suggestion that Sarah was hallucinating could mean that she just imagined she saw Juno, what supports this is the UK ending where she dont actually escape.
Posted by Alicia on May 21st, 2009Just an idea- what if juno had a grudge against all the women and led them there to die. I mean she was the only one who wasn’t injured by the crawlers. She also led them toward the crawlers. The final face off with the wife of the man she was sleeping with. There was evidence someone had been there before-to think she led them to their death since their last fight was so close to the exit. I think Juno and Sarah survived. Who is to say that she really wasn’t in the truck with her @ the end. Where was the other truck? Remember Sarah slept so there was time.
Posted by Rene on May 23rd, 2009I’ll have to watch the ending again. But, yeah, great discussion on this movie (worthy!).
Posted by Tomas on May 23rd, 2009I actually saw this movie at a screening and it was effin awesome!!! I consider myself to be a horror movie buff. I considered the first one to be a true horror classic. Part 2 is not too far behind. It prety much follows the premise of the first one however, the movie is full of surprises (and jumps). It was a totally fun movie to watch and I can’t wait until it is released in the theatres. One small spoiler…. i believe that there will definitely be a part 3… and I can’t wait for that mf.
Posted by Mo on June 10th, 2009Just to point out it is Beth in the car at the end not Juno.
Posted by Abi on July 13th, 2009I think the sequel looks quite good, and even if it’s not does it really matter, its not like you can’t still watch and enjoy the first one and ignore the sequel.
when is the descent 2 coming out in australia or is it all ready out??
Posted by lozza on July 18th, 2009I would take Tom’s comments more seriously if he new the past tense of saw is seen.
Posted by Gerard Gibson on September 19th, 2009Movie sounds good. They need to have a Descent 3 next. I can see the plot have something to do with how they became that way in the first place or have them coming out of the caves and beging to attack humans in the outside world.
Posted by Phill on September 20th, 2009Phil, they would be at a disadvantage then. Never happen.
Posted by Tommy on September 20th, 2009hi all of you well first of all Juno was stabbed in the leg and she WILL be in the sequel and you never saw Sarah die did u?SHE WILL be alive, too.im gonna go see it since the first was amazing!!
Posted by Miguel on October 4th, 2009I saw the movie today! I think its actually very very good! Of course cant have the same atmosphere of the first one (you already know about the creatures!) but they somehow made it again in creating some very scary moments, a lot of action and some introspections in characters. If you loved the first one you should definetely watch this one too!
Posted by Akaijun on November 14th, 2009The pick-axe went thru Juno’s LEG!!!!
Posted by Cameron on November 25th, 2009NOT HER NECK!!!
Watch more carefully next time!
Saw movie last night. thought it was generally good but i have one big question that niggles me (MAJOR SPOILER) why did old guy knock the last girl alive out and leave her for the creepers? if he was trying to keep their existence secret, it would have been a lot easier to do that to Sarah when she banged on his car at the beginning of the film! Also, a bit of a coincidence that old guy was at the right mine exit at the same time the alst girl escaped?
Posted by Marc on December 10th, 2009what i dont understand is at the end of the last movie she didnt really escape, she was jus sitting there watchin a flame torch thing, and when the camrea backs away she is no where neer an exit, she is jus in hole in the wall type thing, i just dont undestand how she got out of there ????
