I Love You, Beth Cooper Trailer Starring Hayden Panettiere

What has this world come to when Chris Columbus, the man behind such family classics as Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter films, is directing a teen sex comedy? At least, that’s certainly what I Love You, Beth Cooper appears to be at first glance. The movie stars Paul Rust as Denis Cooverman, nerd and class valedictorian, who proclaims his love for the school cheerleader Beth Cooper (Hayden Panettiere) during his valedictorian speech.

The trailer would lead you to believe that this is the next Superbad, and with a title that sounds an awful lot like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, you might assume this is a new flick from Judd Apatow’s crew. However, it’s based on a book by Larry Doyle, who also wrote the screenplays for Looney Tunes: Back in Action and Duplex, along with several episodes of The Simpsons and Beavis & Butthead. He seems like more of a Paul Feig type of guy, which makes me think this movie could be better than the trailer is letting on (not to mention the fact that Freaks & Geeks alum Samm Levine is also in the movie). Check out the trailer below or set up a special personalized version over on the movie’s official website. I Love You, Beth Cooper hits theatres on July 10th.

  1. I love the book but this trailer made me cringe a bit. I’ll still see it, but the movie looks god awful.
