Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 25th Anniversary Movie Collection Coming to DVD and Blu-ray in August

Cowabunga dudes… Warner Brothers has just announced a special upcoming release in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live action movie. This August they will unleash Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Collector’s Edition Box Set featuring all four TMNT movies including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Turtles in Time, and the recent CG-animated feature TMNT. The release will be available on both DVD and Blu-ray, marking the first time the original live action films have been available in high-definition.
The full specs are still TBA, but the official TMNT website has a look at the proposed box art including some sweet discs that look like pizzas. I’ve been waiting for years to get a special edition release of the first movie (hopefully with some decent extras) so I’m all over this. However, it remains to be seen if they will be making the movies available individually as well. The only one I don’t really care to own is Part 3, but I know a lot of people will mainly be interested in the original. We’ll keep our ears to the ground for more details on this killer collection as they become available.

Is that from the studio’s press release? Because Turtles II doesn’t have a subtitle. Turtles in Time was the name of the fourth video game that came out around the time of the movie. It’s just Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.
Posted by Alex on February 10th, 2009The first turtles live action movie is so great…like you grow up and then watch it again and realize how it not only holds up…but that it was actually well shot, well directed (by Steve Barron, the Coneheads movie guy), family friendly, yet…pretty dark (unlike the sequels and the cartoon), and independently funded. Also who is cooler then Casey Jones in that flick? and Sam Rockwell is in there too as a cherry on top.
Posted by Bob The Slob on February 10th, 2009no…it had a subtitle…it was TURTLES IN TIME…I have an old poster of it.
Posted by Bob The Slob on February 10th, 20091.Turtles 2 WAS subtitled “Secret of the Ooze”.
Posted by Coldleftovers on February 10th, 20092. A 25th anniversary edition is premature. It’s been 19 years.
It must be the 25th Anniversary of the TMNT comic then. According to Wikipedia, it came out in May 1984.
Posted by Sean on February 10th, 2009Okay… I was going to say… The movie is not 25 years old… no way. IMDB has it as being released in 1990. Kind of a fraud to call it a 25th anniversary.
I would only want the original film in HD… and at that, I’d pay maybe $10 for it. The other films sucked bad.
Real bad.
Posted by Jon Rocks on February 10th, 2009That box set artwork is totally knocking off my socks. Right off.
Posted by Jay C. on February 10th, 2009If it’s exceedingly cheap on Amazon, I’ll bite. I was huge into the turtles when I was a kid. That’s why I bought the first season of the cartoon on dvd… and never, ever watched it.
Posted by Jon Rocks on February 10th, 2009I haven’t seen the original in so long! I tried to watch the VHS maybe 4 years ago but the VCR ate it.
I need blu-ray pizzas to stick in my PS3 but they won’t be Turtles in Time or TMNT.
Posted by Ryan M. on February 10th, 2009total valentine’s day present. for me, i mean.
Posted by megan on February 10th, 2009Will this force Henrik to go and buy a Blu Ray player?
Posted by swarez on February 10th, 2009No force needed, only cash.
Amadeus is out on Blu-Ray as well now. That’s a damned good movie. Did it contain both versions though? Otherwise fu studio.
Posted by Henrik on February 10th, 2009Henrik,
I picked up the Amadeus Blu Ray on your recommendation. However, it’s only the director’s cut, which according to some message boards seems to be bad. Maybe it won’t matter because I haven’t seen it.
Posted by Jay C. on February 10th, 2009It’s still a great movie, but I prefer the original cut (I saw it first). The people I know who I have introduced to the film through the Director’s Cut (it’s the only one I own), have had no problems with the added scenes that I find troubling.
Posted by Henrik on February 11th, 2009I believe THIS awesome video will help clear up the Subtitle/No subtitle issue:

Posted by Henrik on February 11th, 2009I’m sorry but tmnt 3 should not even exist this movie is terrible. All the rest are awesome.
Posted by Andy on February 13th, 2009i want Jetix’s Ninja Turtles:The Next Mutation
the is asick live tv action show
Posted by Munish on March 19th, 2009It’s actually strange because on Amazon.co.uk they claim that this is the collection of the cartoons from the 80’s…
Posted by Daz on April 2nd, 2009Sorry Bob, I have to correct you, Turtles III had NO SUBTITLE. This is a common misconception by many, I’m willing to bet that the poster you have reads “The turtles are back… in time!” This was not the movie’s subtitle though. Turtles in Time was the subtitle for the SNES video game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV.
Posted by LordMylar on April 10th, 2009I don’t think it’s a fraud to call this the 25th anniversary. The whole year of 2009 is celebrating all things Turtles, whether cartoons, films, comics, toys, etc.
It makes only sense to celebrate the 25th anniversary 25 years after the Turtles debuted, NOT just when certain adaptations were released.
It’s like putting on a bunch of Shakespeare’s plays on his birthday instead of when they were first performed for the public.
Posted by VS Romero on April 29th, 2009I can’t stand all you TMNT III bashers… the movie was by far better than that rushed pile of poo that was Secret of the Ooze. Super Shredder? Get real. Atleast III, with its bad suits, was closer to the comics than the second. AND it had heart. Something Sercret of the Poo lacked.

P.S. And Feldman was back as Donnie… THAT rules!
