Monday Morning Box Office Report: Taken Takes Over

The box office numbers for the past weekend would seem to prove that timing is everything, as Fox sat on the Liam Neeson action flick Taken for about a year before finally releasing it in the slow month of January. The result was a $24 million opening, preventing Paul Blart: Mall Cop from taking the top spot for three weeks in a row. Korean horror remake The Uninvited had a slightly disappointing debut with just $10.5 million, which was good enough for #3 on the weekend. Hotel for Dogs and Gran Torino managed to hang in the top 5, while romantic comedy New in Town debuted at a lowly #8 with $6.75 mil.
