New To Theatres This Weekend: Taken, The Uninvited, The Class

The January woes continue this weekend as there isn’t really a whole lot in theatres worth talking about. The Uninvited is a remake of the Korean horror film A Tale of Two Sisters starring Elizabeth Banks, while the Luc Besson action film Taken stars Liam Neeson and looks to add some energy to the box office. Then there’s the Renee Zellweger romantic comedy New in Town, and Academy Award-nominated French drama The Class (which is only playing in a very select number of theatres). Do you see anything worth spending your hard-earned cash on?

“New In Town” reminds yet again why I hate January.
Posted by Liz on January 30th, 2009The original “A Tale of Two Sisters” was an excellent asian horror (if you don’t like that, don’t bother). A friend of mine saw an early screening of “The Uninvited” and it sounds like they butchered it up quite a bit (no pun intended) and ‘ruined’ another good one, as expected.
I don’t mind Hollywood remakes, and it doesn’t make me appreciate the originals any less… I just feel bad for the typical movie-goer who gets a bad image of the genre and has to put up with junk. I think The Ring was the only one yet to come out alright, not that it kept the same feel.
I’m going to see The Wrestler this weekend. I’m psyched about it, since it’s now playing in major theaters around here. It seems that the major theaters and indie theaters alike are picking up all the oscar nominees. The Reader and some others are showing, too.

Posted by Dugen on January 30th, 2009Can’t believe they would remake the boring and forgettable A Tale of Two Sisters.
Posted by Ryan M. on January 30th, 2009…and it’s rated PG-13!? Ha. The only good parts were gory.
Posted by Ryan M. on January 30th, 2009for some reason “Taken” made me want to go out and buy a handgun; maybe it was because everybody and their cousin had a gun in that movie
Posted by coffee on February 1st, 2009I liked this movie It has a lot to like: good cinematography, good acting, and a good story.
