What The… Now Mickey Rourke Won’t Be At Wrestlemania?

Well this whole Mickey Rourke / Wrestlemania thing is already getting weird and confusing. Tuesday on Larry King Live, Chris Jericho called out Mickey Rourke and responded to Rourke’s interview at the SAG Awards where he hinted that he might appear at Wrestlemania 25 in April. It seemed like a promotional piece intended to increase the conflict between the two, even though Rourke ended up saying he would not wrestle him. Now, in a strange twist, it has apparently come out that Mickey Rourke will NOT be appearing at Wrestlemania 25 after all.
Defamer has the following quote from Mickey Rourke’s publicist:
“Mickey was very honored to be asked as he has the greatest respect for WWE however he will not be participating in Wrestle-Mania. He is focusing entirely on his acting career.”
So did someone think better of the whole deal, and realize that it could hurt Rourke’s chances for an Oscar? Maybe. I think there are a couple of other possibilities though as well. Perhaps they are trying to keep his Wrestlemania appearance on the DL, specifically so that it doesn’t influence Academy voters next month, and an official announcement will come afterward. Another possibility is that Rourke will not participate in Wrestlemania, but Randy “The Ram” Robinson will! Lastly, one detail that came from the Larry King segment is that Rourke said he would take on Chris Jericho in a bare knuckle boxing match, but he wouldn’t wrestle him. Could that end up being a special event of its own? We will see. One thing’s for sure, I’ll be pretty disappointed if nothing comes of this whole thing.

From watching Larry King clip it seems that Rourke wasn’t expecting this reaction from Jericho and was sort of flustered by the whole thing.
Posted by swarez on January 29th, 2009Where did this rumor start that he was appearing in Wrestle Mania?
Rourke himself mentioned it while being interviewed on the red carpet at the SAG Awards.

Posted by swarez on January 29th, 2009Either way, it’s good news the last thing Rourke needs is anymore detours in to contact sports.
Posted by Lee on January 29th, 2009Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and Barack Obama all appeared (via pre-taped segment) on RAW. It certainly didn’t hurt the career of one of them. Appearing at Wrestlemania would no more hurt Rourke’s career than appearing in an absolute stinker of a comic book movie immediately following an Academy win.
Then again, I haven’t followed wrestling in 7 years, so I could give a f’.
