Ghost Rider 2 Pretty Much Confirmed

If I remember correctly, before Ghost Rider had even hit theatres, we began hearing talk about a possible sequel. It only makes sense, after all, I don’t think there’s a single comic book movie being made nowadays that is planned as a standalone story. However, as it turns out, the movie wasn’t very well-received (although it did make nearly $230 million worldwide), and this cast doubt on the chances for another installment. Even Eva Mendes came out and said she didn’t think there needed to be a Ghost Rider 2.

Now this week, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Columbia Pictures has officially put out the word that they are looking for writers to pen the sequel, and Nicolas Cage is indeed signed on to return as Johnny Blaze. (Still no word on Mendes.) Nic Cage certainly doesn’t seem to be the kind of guy who is concerned about reviews at this point, so I tend to believe it. However, I’m a little bit surprised that the magic word “reboot” hasn’t entered into the equation here yet. Maybe everyone realizes that Ghost Rider is a pretty ridiculous concept in the first place, and you can’t really make anything better than what Mark Steven Johnson delivered. What do you think, is there any hope for an improved Ghost Rider film as long as Nicolas Cage is still involved?

  1. Ghost Rider has always been a favorite of mine mainly because of his looks. His comics were never that good and I don’t really see how you could make a decent story out of it. But I think they should go straight up horror with a sequel if it ever gets made.
Cage however should stay the hell away from it.

  2. Nicolas Cage should direct this. It could be the comedy he delivered in the first one, except in a fitting universe.

  3. Rob Zombie’s Ghost Rider

    eh? eh?

  4. The first movie wasn’t all that bad. Not saying that it was exactly good, but it wasn’t as bad as it is being portrayed in the media.

You just needed to turn your brain off and then it was just another enjoyable popcorn flick. Good action, somewhat okay plot, easy to follow at least, and nice effects.

Also why is people so much against Cage? His performance wasn’t the bad thing about the movie, the bad thing was that it was a ridiculous concept to begin with. I doubt any actor really could have pulled it off.

  5. Mark Steven Johnson is an illtalented prick…Ghost could be good if it wasnt written by an infant.

  6. Nicholas Cage is TOO OLD to be Johnny Blaze. Mark Steven Johnson is responsible for TWO FAILURES to make great Marvel movies.

Wheres my shotgun…found it. Time for country road trip. This must be stopped.

  7. You’re all wrong. Ghost Rider needs more Nicolas Cage–nay! Nothing *but* The Cage. Something like The Nutty Professor–FROM HELL. ALL of the characters should be played by Cage! Fuck! I’m going to wipe a script on some two-ply…

  8. Well at least Craig Ferguson will be happy. I think one of the worst parts of the ghost rider film was that ghost rider sounded like a panther.

  9. Aw fudge yeah! Is Sam Elliott gonna be in this one?

  10. ghost raider was a preety good film and cage was great
if there is a sequel it will rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. As long as Nicholas Cage is in it I’m fine with there being another Ghost Rider. The first one needed a little more gore and action and writing was a lot to be desired, but…bring on the sequel!!

  12. I’m looking forward to the release. I think they’ll probably take into consideration the feedback from Ghost Rider and incorporate the good ideas. Whatever villain they chose needs to be a lot better though.
