Empire After Dark in St. Catharines Presents: Fight Club

For readers local to the Niagara Region, here is your monthly reminder about the next Empire After Dark (formerly known as Fanboy Friday) screening at the Pen Centre in St. Catharines. This month’s selection, as chosen by the audience at last month’s outing, will be David Fincher’s Fight Club. Apparently this is what the younger moviegoers consider to be an “old classic” nowadays, despite the fact that it was released less than 10 years ago! Still, I know there are a lot of people who didn’t see it on the big screen when it was released since the movie was considered a box office disappointment.
Once again, here are the full details for the screening:
Empire After Dark: Fight Club
Fri. Jan. 30th @ Midnight
Empire Studio 8 Theatres, Pen Centre, St. Catharines
Admission: $6.99
You can buy tickets online here. Be sure to come early for the prizes, and also to vote on next month’s film! For more information and to find out about future screenings, join the Facebook Group, or contact Empire Theatres at 905-682-8843.

I’d probably go see this if it was playing locally, but for me “Fight Club” just hasn’t held up. Even though it’s not that old, when I watch it these days, I don’t see the same things that amazed me when I was in film school. It’s just okay.
Posted by Jon Rocks on January 27th, 2009Fight Club is definitely a young mans film. David Fincher is a young mans director.
Posted by Henrik on January 27th, 2009Henrik, is Zodiac a young man’s film? I purchased it recently even though I have no interest in the subject matter. I just remember Jay liking it a lot. (I get the feeling that I’ll dislike Zodiac as much as There Will Be Blood.) Maybe I’ll watch it tonight.
I liked Fight Club, but maybe the William Shatner reference is influencing me. (I also liked Alien 3 and Panic Room.)
Posted by Reed Farrington on January 28th, 2009My Dad is 53 years old and never seeks out a film unless it’s about Jesus or has Will Smith in it (and sleeps through almost everything I’ve tried to show him) but he watched ALL of Zodiac with me!
Posted by Ryan M. on January 28th, 2009In case anyone is interested, I thoroughly enjoyed Zodiac. I admit that I took a breakfast intermission midway through the film, but the film kept me awake through the whole thing. I especially liked how the movie defied Hollywood conventions in this mystery thriller. I know this is based on a true story, but that hasn’t stopped Hollywood before from making Hollywood type movies like Dirty Harry based on the same true story.
I noticed that there is a Star Trek reference in this film. I’m wondering now if there is a Star Trek reference in all of David Fincher’s movies…
