Monday Morning Box Office Report: Underworld Suffers Fatal Blart Attack

When you’re the #1 movie in America for a weekend, there’s always the chance that it was a freak occurrence, or maybe someone fudged the numbers. But when you take the box office crown two weeks in a row, even while going up against sequels to popular franchises… well, that kind of proves that you are doing something right (to use the term “right”, loosely). I’m sure I’m not the only one who is shocked that Paul Blart: Mall Cop managed to stay on top for the second week in a row, but apparently, this is the kind of stuff people want to see. Kevin James was just lovable enough to edge out Underworld: Rise of the Lycans by about a million dollars. Gran Torino was at #3, followed by Hotel for Dogs. Slumdog Millionaire also rode the wave of Oscar buzz into the top 5, while Brendan Fraser’s Inkheart debuted way down at #7. Do you smell that? I think somebody blarted.
1. Paul Blart: Mall Cop — $21.5M
2. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans — $20.7M
3. Gran Torino — $16M
4. Hotel for Dogs — $12.4M
5. Slumdog Millionaire — $10.6M
6. My Bloody Valentine — $10.1M
7. Inkheart — $7.72M
8. Bride Wars — $7M
9. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button — $6M
10. Notorious — $5.7M

He has a great way of writing and his justifications are usually spot on.
Posted by Ian on January 26th, 2009Wether or not Blart is good, I am happy for Kevin James and I hope this boosts his carrer and gets him some good offers.
