I hope this isn’t too confusing, but I think there are three versions of the first motion picture. I didn’t think the Director’s Edition was any better than the version initially released to DVD and video. I could be wrong, but I don’t think the theatrical version of the first motion picture has ever been released. Before the Director’s Edition, the version on DVD and video has always been a “longer version” which I thought was better because of the added scene with Spock and Kirk holding hands, and Spock explaining that V’Ger lacks the ability to feel.

I’m interested in the “famous fan commentary.” I think I’ll wait by the phone for the call to come down to Hollywood.

Indeed swarez, the 143-minute, Director’s edition is far superior to the theatrical version.

It’s a shame that ST the motion picture only has the theatrical release and not the directors cut which I love to death.
I heard the reason for this is that the new FX weren’t rendered in HD so they will have to do that over again.
Still I have never seen the original cut of The Motion Picture so that it nice. But I’ll probably wait for the SE to be release which will most likely include both versions.
