Emily Blunt to Play Black Widow in Iron Man 2?

Well we still haven’t heard the official word on the casting of Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell in Iron Man 2, but now we’ve got a third rumour to add to the pile. Yay! Marvel is supposedly in search of an actress to play another Russian character in the film named Natasha Romanoff. According to Variety, Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada, Charlie Wilson’s War) is the current frontrunner for the role.

So who is Natasha Romanoff? Well she’s a Soviet spy, but on top of that, she also moonlights as Black Widow, a femme fatale who wears (you guessed it!) a high-tech suit. I’m sensing a pattern here. I’ll admit that I don’t know much about the character, but she sounds pretty similar to Catwoman and Black Cat in that she is a seductive villain who flirts with the hero and eventually teams up with him. You know, I like what I’m hearing with regards to the casting of this sequel, but I don’t have much interest in the characters so far. What do you think, is Black Widow a good addition to the film, and is Emily Blunt hot enough — I mean, a good fit?

  1. Well, that’s not so bad. I thought I was about to read that she was replacing Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts. The next step would surely have been replacing Robert Downy Jr. with Anton Yelchin.
